It has been said that being at a football game instead of watching it on t.v. is similar to physically making love as opposed to watching someone else doing it.
Anyway, I would love to be at the ‘Devils game. If the players’ parents are allowed in (which they probably won’t) I’m going to be protesting that my civil rights have been trampled on.
I don’t get local TV Stations so I’ll have to go to a bar to watch the SC game. I can’t go to a bar without having a beer or many, so I’ll be well oiled by the afternoon. As I live in Northwestern Arizona, PAC-12 news is not a big thing here. I recall reading that Cal’s QB Garbers may not be healthy but that may be old news. I think the Bears could be a sleeper if he is healthy. His backup last year was a UCLA castoff and I can’t remember his name, but he was a… Read more »
The Huskies never really got their bang for their buck out of Chris Petersen, who only went 55-26 (34-20 in the Pac-12) and lost four of six bowl games from ’14-19, though he always won the Apple Cup and was an improvement over Seven Win Sark for sure.
Petersen passed over a fairly lukewarm program to unproven first-year man Jimmy Lake.
Justin Wilcox has surprised me a little at CAL. He seems to fit there and somehow learned to coach defense for the Bears, which he could not do well at USC for whatever reasons from 2014-15.
This first week it will be interesting to see who is ready to play. Stanford and UCLA didn’t want to play (at least the administrations). Colorado, Cal and Stanford had a tough time getting clearance to practice. Utah and the Arizona schools have had plenty of practice time but do they have the talent? Of course I like SC over the Sundevils but it may not be easy, can anyone say…. ugly win!
ASU could be a dangerous team. HC Herman has developed this program each year and has improved his coaching staff. The Sun Devils beat SC last time they played in LA, so there is no Utah paranoia filtering here. I believe Their program was allowed to start practicing way before SC did. That might matter?
USC’s got a brand new defense now. Mike Bohn is here now too, looking over Clay’s shoulder. Big differences!
Plus, USC HAS to win this opening game as the Trojans are expected to play for the Pac-12 championship and Helton knows if he loses, he loses another big chunck of Trojan backers.
All the signs point to a USC victory, in the morning in L.A., which also works to USC’s advantage. But I’m a little worried about the spreading Munir McClain situation now. Just not quite enough, yet.
another site is mentioning that Helton might be reverting to his soft practices again, to minimize injuries. the main issue i see is that ASU and Utah will have had alot more practice time. that makes a huge difference.
not predicting a loss, but i am believing that we really have no clue what USC team will show up this season. it could be a truly dominant team if both the defense and offense live up to their potential. the offensive line is a big question. we have no idea whether the defense will have early difficulties coming together. and we can only assume that the new physical attitude is real and not just another helton con-job. the lack of spring training and a full fall practice schedule means that in the first couple games, weird things can happen.… Read more »
I just wanted to pin you down about USC vs ASU. And you predict a USC win, like most all of us. Good.
Being a mid-season first game, and in this brutal Covid environment, I really doubt either USC or ASU will look fantastic.
I’m hoping for a 10-point USC win, but I haven’t seen USC ever open impressively during the Helton years, so it would be great if these new Trojan coaches could show a changed Trojan football culture.
You are sticking your chin out Allen making these predictions so early. Half the players on some of these teams could be quarantined and not make it on the field. I will wait until the morning of to make any predictions.
Now you’ve officially busted me Jam. As if you didn’t already know — I love to stick my chin out early, make predictions, state what I think is coming, unreservedly, and I always fervently encourage others here to do the same.
Wish you would jump on board. It’s so much more fun (for me at least) that way!

UCLA 31 Colorado 28

I’ve already looked into adopting one of our walk-ons doubt it will work though.

So the East Coast will get to see SC in the early afternoon and Oregon at night.
This looks like an excellent day of games to me on Nov. 7.
I’m picking:
USC over ASU
UTAH over ARIZ
CU over UCLA
ORE over STAN
CAL over UW
ORE ST over WSU
Interesting CAL over UW? That one might be a good game to watch.

i think helton has already lost all trojan backers, except Folt/Caruso. he needs to win at least a small amount of them back this year.

Are you picking USC to actually lose to ASU?
I don’t care how much time the Sun Devils have been practicing, there’s no reason to conclude the favored Trojans will blow it at 9 am on Nov. 7.
