USC FOOTBALL IS BACKÂ Â
Here at Trojan Daily Blog we have decided to add some excitement to the season by having a season long Football Contest that is free to enter and cash prizes to the top three finishers. At the bottom of the page is a preliminary list of games for the first week. Please read the following rules and if you are interested you can leave a message in the comment section or you can you can email me at: info@trojandailyblog.com. If you have Trojan friends that you think might be interested, tell them to email me and I will set them up with a free account.Â
If you would like to get a USC Media Guide, let me know and I will email you a digital copy.
There are no entry fees.
Every participant will receive 20,000 betting units.
You must bet a minimum of 1 game and 1,000 units each week.
There will be a limited number of games to choose from each week.
The contest ends with Pac-12 Conference Championship Game.
I will post the point spread for each week’s games on Monday.
All wagers must be received by Friday at noon PT.
Wagers must be posted on the TDB (preferred) or they can be emailed to: info@trojandailyblog.com.
I will review each wager to make sure that it was correctly placed and I will then send you a confirmation that your wager(s) have been accepted.
If you do not receive an acknowledgement from me, then your wagers do not count. If you have not heard from me, please email me.
If a game is cancelled or moved to another date, then that game will not be counted as a bet (no action).
Winning wagers will be paid as ‘even money’, for example; if you bet 1,000 units, you will win 1,000 units.
The winner will be determined by who has the most betting units in their account at the end of the contest.
I will keep track of everyone’s account and this accounting will be posted on TDB on Monday. Please review my figures. If you think that a mistake has been made you must contact me by 9pm Monday – otherwise these numbers will be considered official.
First Prize is: $150.00
Second Prize is: $75.00
Third Prize is: $25.00
If two people end up in first place, then the first and second prize will be added together and that amount will be split between the two winners.
I will handle all disputes and my decision will be final.
Please remember, this is supposed to be about fun and Trojan camaraderie.
These are the games that we are looking at for Week 1. These point spreads are preliminary numbers. The final point spreads will be posted on Monday, August 30th.

Count me in for the weekly contest…..thanks
Sounds good.
Don’t want anyone to get sick…….but…….SURE GLAD ITS BACK.
Missed it very much. Watched Illinois get lucky against Missouri.
As far as San Jose…..we should have too much……even with Helton goofing around……but look out for those improved teams on the schedule that we would ordinarily gloss over but have good lines……they will be running on us and could be tough. Oregon St, Colorado and Wa St…….you know just mentioning those teams as serious threats really gets the ideas flowing as too how to get rid of you know who.
Odds on season openers are like a preseason poll, a wild-ass guess. Clemson/Georgia is definitely the game of the week, and who knows what team Helton will bring this week. Texas will have their hands full of Louisiana, and Alabama will have a game breaker at Miami QB they need to control. ucla I do not believe has the horses to play 4 quarters with LSU, although it may be fun to watch for a short while. If for no other reason than to get see Coach O.
It pains me to say this, but a Trojan loss and Bruin win next weekend would not surprise me. Ucla does does something very well that SC does very poorly, which is running the football. SJS is not a pushover, has a game under their belt, and as bad as Clay is, he is even worse in season openers. I think the point spread should be in the 3-4 point range.
If I didn’t feel an emotional attachment to USC, I would bet the house with the Spartans and take the 17 points.
You really believe this USC team will lose to SJS? No way. But you do believe USC will win by less than a TD. Now that could happen!
Allen, SJS can beat SC. I do not think it will happen, but I think they have a reasonable shot at it. My guess is it will come down to how well the SC D plays, particularly if it can create turnovers.
After watching Helton lead us vs. Western Michigan, Fresno State, UNLV, etc, in season openers, yes I am concerned SC may lose. On paper, it shouldn’t be close, but never underestimate the “Gomer” factor.
On a more positive note, do you think there is any chance Clay gets the tarmac treatment if we lose on Saturday?
No. I think Clay will be our coach in 2022. Not too tough of a schedule, and a possibly great QB should get him into a bowl game he can win.
That’s unless UCLA beats USC this year at the Coliseum. I think that loss could get Clay fired, especially if USC loses sloppily and fairly big. I’m assuming Clay loses to ND in South Bend, but if he somehow wins against the Irish, that may keep him his job even if he loses to UCLA.
Being in the Bahamas all week I am a little behind, but this looks like a lot of fun. Count me in. I don’t think SUU was any kind of a team to gauge SJSU by, but I do know after a great year last season, they have lost a lot of talent in critical slots, so to me they are not going to be a threat to beating USC.
After watching UCLA yesterday for the first half (the game was over at half and I stopped watching), what I saw was (a) UCLA has a very good OL, (b) a sensational RB in Charbonnet (the Oaks Christian transfer from MI), (c) DTR was just awful (he was unbelievably bad), and (d) I could not tell about the D (I have no idea how good or bad the HI O is). We will know more about the Bruins after next week. I should have bet the game, right? I watched only the first half of the San Jose State game.… Read more »
13.5 — 15 seems to be the range. I would lay the points at home. But who cares whether USC wins by 13 or 20 or 30? The real issue is how does USC look in all facets of the game against an inferior opponent. You know it when you see it. Hopefully, the USC sloppy penalty brigade has lost its muster and the Trojans of 2021 have fixed some major issues. Yesterday, the Bruins looked great. I mean, really good, even though DTR didn’t. I haven’t seen them look like that since they went 10-3 in 2013 and beat… Read more »
We will see tomorrow what Vegas thinks as you set the fun and games of picking games. I think the preseason professionals missed UCLA big time. I thought UCLA was very good last year (I thought there were better than SC) but got very unlucky (just as SC got very lucky – SC should have finished 2-3). UCLA’s best unit is its OL (IMO) and now they have a premiere RB. DTR cannot be the focus of the O; he is simply too inconsistent and error prone. Next week has some wonderful match ups, particular SC/San Jose State and UCLA/LSU.… Read more »
Well we can get an early look at SJS at 7pm PST on CBSSN. Fresno St had an easy time of it today but reality will hit next week.
Dozens in attendance today to witness a solid quarter of bRuin football
Bruins look very good on the ground. I’d for once like to see USC get out of its annual early winning ugly rut.
Allen, if SC plays its typical “ugly ball” against San Jose State, the game will be very close. From the little I saw of the game, San Jose State’s strength is its passing game and the strength of the SC D is its pass D. They did not appear to be a power running team, like say UCLA. Thus, SC/San Jose State game appears to be a possible high scoring affair.
I would too, but unfortunately there’s a reason it happens. Off-season preparation is wildly sub-par compared to what premiere teams do. Helton doesn’t refuse to prepare properly out of stubbornness — he literally doesn’t know how.
Very well said Rock. He doesn’t know what he doesn’t know.
Ruins were 12 of 22 for 148 against Hawaii?
I’d say the party is over for Husker coach Scott Frost, one of the few coaches on hotter seats than Helton.
ILL is manhandling NEB 30-16, with only 13 mins left to go in the game.
Allen: I agree 100 percent with you on Frost’s seat being hotter than Helton’s. Just like when I interviewed for a job in Columbus, OH 7 years ago and everything was about OSU, Lincoln Nebraska is a town that nothing else going on except Husker Football. The fans are very adamant and I’m sure they are up in arms with what has happened to Cornhusker football. Even though Frost is one of their own, I think he may be out sooner than Huggy Boy Clay.
I did not watch all of the game (I cut out for the UCLA game). In the 1st Half, NE gave away 17 points: a punt return that turned into a safety (first time I have seen that), a missed extra point, fumble by the QB that was returned for a TD, and a roughing the passer (it was a true roughing penalty) that negated a pass interception and lead to 7 IL points. From what I saw, IL was better coached, more disciplined, and tougher. Stepp is a mystery to me. He was the sole reason that NE scored… Read more »
Markese Stepp scores a one-yd off-tackle TD for Huskers to put them up 6-2 in the 2nd Q.
Stepp is not the starter for Nebraska.
hes actually 3rd on depth chart, but has made biggest play so far.
That big reception on a wheel route was nice, but Stepp came to NEB because he was unhappy with USC’s run game. It should be noted that he seemed to be USC’s 3rd string RB when he left. Sometimes, things just fall apart for a player at a school, and at USC, Stepp just couldn’t stay healthy. Still what Stepp said several weeks ago about Trojan football bears repeating: Stepp — “The play (at NEB) is very different. Here it is like gritty hand in the dirt, smash-mouth football. At SC it was more pretty, more flamboyant. At USC they… Read more »
Stepp is now on a truly terrible team and is 3rd string. A little baffling.
Frankly, I wasn’t sad to see him go. Stepp wasn’t ever the same after his first injury. Going to NEB (now) wasn’t even a lateral move. I’d say he’s a journeyman basically.
USC has plenty of runners. None great, but a few good ones. Stepp would ride the pine in the Coliseum. The real question is, will USC stick to its pledge to primarily focus on no more than two RBs and ditch the RB-by-Committee? With USC, you can never tell about this stuff. At least I can’t.
Fair enough. Who cares about the money. It is ego at stake here.
And what is to stop players from cherry-picking how they bet. If a “lock” comes along, what is to stop one from betting his/her entire allowance of 20,000 units?– That is probably how one wins in this game.
You must bet a minimum of 1 game and 1,000 units each week.
Please note the following line in the rules section: Please remember, this is supposed to be about fun and Trojan camaraderie.
If ‘cherry-picking games’ is as easy as you say then the Las Vegas sports books would have closed down a long time. Secondly, if ‘cherry-picking games’ is an effective strategy, the fact that every contestant has an equal opportunity to employ the strategy then there is no advantage to anyone.
So, will you participate in my contest?
Perhaps John will put up alabama vs little sisters of the poor and you can cherry pick that on. So far the list doesn’t show any games that are locks. Some games look to be really close, but who knows, it is college football week 1.
Count me in! Fight On!
Contest is TBD on TDB. Cool.
Im interested
John, Look forward to the fun!
lets go! Good work John.
