From an anonymous coach: “Defensively, they’re really adopting Todd Orlando’s identity,” the anonymous coach said. “They run a really aggressive scheme, and when he smells blood in the water, he dials up some exotic stuff. I think if they turn the corner under Helton, it will be because of this defense. There’s a different mindset now than with the previous defensive coordinators. The advanced analytics don’t show it yet, but as a coach you know they’re going to attack you more this season. “They want to put the talent out there, let them loose and get big stops. Per The Athletic: Arizona State deputy athletics director was told of alleged football recruiting violations in winter: Source
TEMPE, Ariz. — “Jean Boyd, a deputy athletics director who oversees the Arizona State football program, was made aware of potential recruiting violations during the winter, a former athletic department staff member told The Athletic. The staffer did not know whether Boyd investigated the information or kept it to himself.
“Told of the allegation that he was informed of potential violations, he repeated, ‘I’m not going to comment on anything at all…’”
Unfortunately for ASU the damage is done and they should be screwed.
Fortunately for ASU the NCAA has been neutered, so who knows what their punishment will be.
USC will go down in history IMO easily as the most overly-punished school involving one violation in the history of NCAA penalties.
Bushgate didn’t manage to much diminish Trojan fans’ enthusiasm for USC football. But the program was so unfairly set back.
I bet ASU’s eventual penalty serves to likely aggravate USC’s base, because as you pointed out, the NCAA is operating now under a massive public neuterization. Who knows how much they’ll dial back their normal penalty discretion?
I’m not sure Steele will end up first team, and I am sure Pola-Mao will end up first team. Slovis has to have a great and complete season to end up #1. Maybe those all conference linemen will do their jobs.
I’m a huge fan of Slovis. He was one of USC’s greatest finds, a 3 star in high school and now one of the best in college. Dart will get his shot I am sure, but right now Slovis is the guy and I am really pulling for him to have a great year as this may his last one at USC and our last season to watch him in college football. Remember, as long as CH is the coach, he will not make changes in personnel unless it is because of injury. Toa.
I personally think Slovis, in his last year at USC for sure, has a good chance of getting hurt again. Dart, much more evasive, will need to be ready IMO.

No question about it Allen. 😕

As important as Slovis is, I’m so high on Dart that I’m hoping to see a lot of him this season, regardless of how Slovis plays.
