USC hires Cavs’ Lindsay Gottlieb as women’s hoops coach Yahoo News — LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lindsay Gottlieb is returning to the Pac-12 as the head women’s basketball coach at Southern California. The school on Monday announced the hiring of Gottlieb, an assistant coach with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. The 43-year-old Gottlieb spent the past two seasons with the Cavs after a successful stint as the women’s head coach at California, where she built the Golden Bears into a national power from 2011-19. Cal went 179-89 under Gottlieb and made seven NCAA Tournament appearances in her eight seasons in Berkeley,… Read more »
I know that the transitive properties does not necessarily apply here, but this gives me some hope. Bohn hired from the NBA to get a top notch coach. You know that she is going to be paid like a top tier coach. Let’s hope that this will be approach when Clay is finally let go.
Hopefully, Bohn has struck coaching gold again with this WBB hire. Despite our misgivings about Folt, she is the one who hired Bohn, who seems to me like he is totally on the job, so far, despite the Helton elephant which is always in the room.
Three football related items: The overtime rules have been changed. There will be two goes from twenty-five; after that, only two point conversions. I watched the game that changed the overtime rule: the 5OT Tex A&M/LSU game. It was a barn burner. Arledge’s musing this week: (a) he doubts Slovis will last a season at QB behind an O scheme that throws the ball 50 times, does not use screens or draws, cannot run the ball, does not move the pocket, has an immobile QB and an highly suspect OL, (b) the D looks suspect in the middle, with weak… Read more »
Great info and thanks.
I’m really pleased with the overtime change. I read Arledge too and think he says a lot of things well. He isn’t afraid to stick his neck out and I really respect that.
This upcoming team seems like it will be a total crapshoot. All kinds of takes. Under Helton, that’s just always how things are. It one of his “perks” to us Trojan fans.
Having Clay as HC is like having a disease and being unsure if you will recover. Greg Katz has SC at a best case of 9-3 and 6-6 at worst. Never thought I would the best case for SC at 9-3. I ignore Clay talking about championships. He is simply incapable of competing at the national level. The issue whether SC can be competitive regionally. Stu Mandel and I think not.
Nothing too much dispute except when he calls Slovis immobile.
Other than all of that, how did you like the play, Mrs. Lincoln?
Twitter — According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, Arch Manning has already locked in his June visits with CLEM, SMU, TEXAS, ALA, and GA. 2023’s #1 QB says he also wants to check out STAN, USC, OHIO ST, UNC, and VA, in what publicly remains a very large field. This reminds me of way back in the old days, when I was trying to cover Peyton Manning and he and father Archie would be feeding me his recruiting info, all perfectly orchestrated to keep me unable to make a good prediction about where Peyton would land. They were sure… Read more »
Rumors are swirling that Oliver Luck, father of Andrew, may be named the new Pac-12 Commissioner. He seems pretty qualified. Still, just rumors.

Now, this blows me away:
Jags to Sign Tim Tebow
Jacksonvillle plans to sign former QB to a one-year deal as a TE (Rapoport)
Highlights of USC beating UCLA for the NCAA Beach VB title yesterday in Alabama:
Fight On!
Urban is like a new Life Insurance Salesman—-all his deals are with friends or family.
Also, Tim Tebow is so popular in the South. He really is like a god there, and I’m sure I don’t really appreciate just how highly regarded he is in Florida and throughout all of SEC country. I bet people back there are totally jacked about this. He’ll sell tickets. His fans tend to be all-in.
No doubt. Big news for USC WBB. Hiring Lindsay Gottlieb and increase of program resources = good news.
I don’t know diddly about Gottlieb. But I’m very encouraged that it looks like Mike Bohn actually mounted a search, and didn’t just make some ridiculous promotion from within.
I’ll be interested to learn about what Gottlieb actually brings to the table for USC Women’s hoops. I sure would like to see a huge rebound there. USC’s tradition deserves it.
Bohn sure nailed it when he hired Dain Blanton to coach the Trojan Beach team. National champs in year two! That’s what I call performance and accountability.
Unfortunately for Bohn he can do everything right, but if he blows it with FB that is what he will always be remembered for.
I think Bohn is smart enough to agree with you completely, and this fuels his desire to not let that ruin any other legacy he leaves.
Well, at least Tebow won’t continue to embarrass himself under center. If he can catch, that might work for him — and he will put butts in the seats in Florida.
Another win for the Conference of Champions and a huge victory for the women of Troy. It is sweet to win any NCAA Championship, but to defeat the little gutties for the championship is even sweeter. Very proud of our trojans today as always. FIGHT ON!
Great victory for USC, yes indeedy! Fun to watch.
USC really came to play and clearly outhit as well as outsmarted UCLA today. By winning, USC ended up going 4-2 against UCLA on the year in Beach VB, and added a nice huge cherry on top of this year’s Crosstown Cup triumph over UCLA.
USC won the most recent competition against the Bruins in the 2018-19 season and has now captured 9 of the past 13 Crosstown Cups. Last year’s competition was suspended when athletic events were canceled due to Covid.
They played with power. Straight ahead VB. USC serving styles really cut down the bruins ability to attack. Great Win
Always good when we be the bRuins. Even more so when it is for a natty.
I was really rooting for the Trojans today after USC lost the Beach Pac-12 championship to UCLA, losing two straight games to them in the process.
Revenge is a dish best served cold, they say. But today’s victory over UCLA when the chips were down for all the marbles was nothing but hot — until the entire team jumped in the water!
I see what you did there Allen. 😉
