As expected, 2023 three-star IOL Alani Noa (6-4, 320; Sacramento Grant Union) just publicly committed to USC over ORE.
The versatile Noa becomes USC’s 4th OL commitment in its 2023 class, the other three also all being 3-stars, at least for now: OT Tobias Raymond (6-7, 250; Ventura), IOL Amos Talalele (6-5, 300; Santa Clara) and IOL Micah Banuelos (6-2.5, 290; Burien Kennedy Catholic, WA).

Lincoln Riley on his 2022 fall camp, quickly:
“Continue to be a very much overall back-and-forth camp,” Riley said. “We leave the field, one group’s going to be happy, one group’s going to be pissed. For me, you’re happy and mad both at the same time, and that’s how I should feel…You feel that back-and-forth when both sides are having success and both sides are being challenged. And I think that’s what’s happening right now.” on3.com
I sure like how this guy talks.
So, the defense is not so “dominant”. It is now back and forth. As it should be.
Personally, I’ve always thought USC’s D is full of question marks and lacks depth. The offense will be the strength of this 2022 team and while LR suddenly calling the defense “dominant” made a few headlines, it didn’t fill in any gaps for me. I’m looking to know a lot more about how USC’s drastically new defensive personnel mixes in together, and how Alex Grinch operates as a tactician and defensive play caller. The defensive mix and approach remain a big mystery to me, as well as to all those reporters who see nothing after the first 20 minutes. USC’s… Read more »
I agree on the D. On O, we are loaded with talent and have a pretty good idea who will start. On D, we know Tui on the DL will start, that Shane Lee & Gentry will start at LB, and Blackmon and Bullock at DB. Beyond that, it is a question mark. From what I can see, the run D is a significant problem. Thus, we are going to have problems when facing teams with strong OLs and a strong running games. We face three of them in 2022: Utah, Oregon State and ND. What is great about this… Read more »
Has anyone heard anything about Nelson and his trip to TAM? I am doubting he would flip but stranger things have happened.
I’m not even remotely worried about it.
If Malachi, who already has USC/NIL partnerships set in place by Trojans, was seriously thinking about becoming an Aggie, info would be leaking all over the place. JMHO.
He’s a Trojan. Bank on it. Or call me dumb if the unthinkable happens.
I still believe that we will get some flips as well. Once the season plays out and we win 10 games, there will be some that want to get on board. Also, student body right will help out with those who went elsewhere due to NIL.
I think this shows what we all had hoped for from LR and his staff. They are addressing the greatest need on the 2023 Trojans – OL depth. I think we lose four starters this year – Vorhess, Neilon, Dedich & Haskins. I am counting on Haskins starting over either Ford or Monheim.
It’s simply amazing to watch LR put together the pieces for both the short-term and long-term future of USC football.
The Bruins, who have only six 2023 commits (USC has 16) have basically given up on recruiting preps (ranked #83) and have decided to rebuild their team every year through the portal. Good times.
Amazing to watch how LR, his support staff and coaches recruit/scout HS & the portal…. West coast 2024 class has a number of blue chip OL prospects. Once we can see the D in action, will be exciting to see how that comes together.
“Whoa Nellie” “Hold the phone” the LR era has begun. ( Would be amazing to have heard Keith Jackson’s take LR @ USC)
The upside is that after these players get through the upcoming season they should all be looking at 4 stars which makes LR look even smarter and shut up the naysayers. Each 3 star offensive lineman LR has gotten is a very high 3 star, so the reclassification into 4 star will happen.
You mean there are actually “naysayers”? I can’t imagine, but of course, I’m a self-admitted USC honk. Bring on the season.
I can’t possibly imagine any other CFB coach in the country coming to USC and doing more, or doing it better, than Lincoln Riley has since December. We are blessed.
Yes Allen, I am a firm believer myself. What I have seen LR do these past few months has been truly exciting and the cumulation of the talent kind of leaves you in awe. By the time signing day comes around I do believe he will have a top 5 class.
The difference between Lincoln Riley and Clay Helton is the difference between having a plan and making a wish.
You’re being very kind to The Cat IMO. The numerous other diffs between LR and Clay could fill a book I would say.
A large book for sure.
I certainly don’t want to be thought of as soft on Helton.
I understand completely! Soft on Helton would be a very bad look! 😉
Dedich could stay. He has one more year of eligibility because the Covid year of 2019 didn’t count. He may opt to go but I hope that he doesn’t.
