Go Beavs! Beat the Huskies! I think it’s gonna happen. 14-7, 3:20 left in half.
I couldn’t bet on Mich/Wisc game. 9.5 points for Mich is a real reach, they just haven’t convinced me they are as good as they are rated, and the Wisc line play is all that good to shut them down. We shall see. Arkansas may surprise Georgia but not win, but Georgia will not beat the line. Kiffen will look respectable but Saban will reign again, also not beating the spread. ucla, if their qb is at all consistent will beat the close point spread. That is a big IF for DTR. Cincinnati finally gets a real test after squeaking… Read more »
Nice catch on the BYU game last night (+5000)!
They had me worried after they lost their QB. Fortunately they hung on.

You are going to have a busy day Saturday. Great way to spread out the pain,(or joy).
It will keep him interested all day long!
I’d just like to break even for once. Let’s go!
Couldn’t help yourself going with Kiffin could ya. Hope you do no worse than break even.
I’ve always liked Lane. When I knew him at USC, he was 100% football, 100% of the time. The word I would best use to describe him regarding football at the time is “obsessed.” He was too immature to be USC’s HFC the first time around when the Trojans were on the world’s worst probation. But he’s a very smart football coach. I utterly can’t imagine Haden firing Lane on the tarmac and denying him the ability to ride home on one of the players’ buses after the ASU game. That just plain old doesn’t compute for me. Yet it… Read more »
That nasty move by Haden and others proved to be the guy’s downfall. Too bad, too, because at one time he was seen as a great Trojan.
I’m starting to think I’m gonna take CU and 7.5 points over USC in Boulder. The Buffs have never beaten USC in 14 tries.
I can’t really believe I’m saying this. It’s a pretty big step, betting on lowly CU, maybe even straight up, to take the fully beleaguered Trojans.
If USC loses this one, the Helton Culture will have hit a brand new low.
Nick Saben -14.5 for 10,000
Saben is 23-0 against former assistants by an average of 25 points. The Tide beat the Rebels by 15 in Oxford last year. Saben knows Kiffen’s offense.
So true, all the facts point to Saban covering the spread. Those darn ‘facts” dictate that Lane is going down, down, down into the trash heap of other coaches who can’t beat Saban.
Congrats on going with the big 10,000! You’ll either be sitting in high cotton, or wondering how Kiffin managed to hoodwink his old boss.
Go Kiffin, though like you, I wouldn’t bet on him. Unless I can’t help myself!
BYU -7.5 5000
Notre Dame -4 2000
Oregon -8.5 1000
ucla -3.5 2000
John, you should have listed the UConn/Vanderbuilt game. Nobody could figure that one out.
Huskies +14.5 at the Commodores -14.5.
4:30pm on ESPNU
Let me see if I can come up with a pick. ⛏
We could have had an over/under for turnovers.
USC -7.5 for 1000
Georgia -18.5 for 1000
Lane Kiffen +14.5 for 1000
Fight On Trojans! ✌
Boy, would I love to see Lane Kiffin beat Nick Saban.
I will be tuning into this game.
12 Ole Miss at 1 Alabama. 12:30pm PT CBS
BYU -7.5 for 4000
Wisconsin +9.5 for 4000
Oregon -8.5 for 1000
Oregon -8.5 3,000

OSU -2.5 1,000
UCLA +3.5 1,000
I am passing on the “Which Program is the Greater Grease Fire Bowl” between SC and CO.
Great slate of games this week. It might be fun to bet all ten of them.
Surprised the BYU / Utah St game is that close.
USC plays BYU the week after the UCLA game in the Coliseum.
That Bruin game may take a lot out of the Trojans, especially if they lose as many predict.
Starting to think we will be lucky to end the season 6 – 6
Ya, getting thoroughly whipsawed by the Beavers will do that to you.
Utah, I am still at 6-6. I really think this team will show up for a game that no one expects. It has talent on it. If SC gets clobbered by ND and loses to say CO (and it could happen), then not many teams will get up for them. This is, without a doubt, the worst SC team I have ever seen. Even Larry Smith’s 4-8 team was better than this bunch. Remember Reggie Perry?
At least USC can’t claim its job is tougher because it is always taking other teams’ best shots. This team may have talent, but it’s certainly not of the “great” variety and there are major holes at OL and LB, to say the least. The DL is thin, our RBs are only adequate and some of our best DBs can’t cover. Even our very experienced starting QB has dropped off the NFL Draft radar and many USC fans are hoping Dart can take over asap. As you know, I’ve been touting USC as an 8-4 team for many months. It… Read more »
I am amazed at the odds on that one, I had to double check.
Arkansas +18.5 for 2000 units
Oregon St-2.5 for 2000 units
I am sure the middle-aged-and-up crowd on this Blog do not have a “lose the rent-money” gambling addiction. Fortunately, because most of us here in John’s Contest have experienced sad returns on our bets….
So one wonders, why is it 100,00 or more Americans keep betting on sports, a long-term SURE loss. I only bring this up because the gambling feature on this blog has opened up interesting ideas about sports gambling. But pity the poor American souls who have sold out for the unearned thrill of that occasional win.
Variable Reinforcement is very powerful in training behavior, especially gambling. I don’t gamble because I don’t like to give away money on a useless cause. Not just gambling but paying taxes, paying interest, even buying insurance is a lose/lose. I don’t have to gamble but unfortunately I have to do the others but keep it to a minimum. This contest is fun, challenging with no risk. I don’t care much if I win, I’m mostly just trying to end up with more than the 20K I started. Obviously to most of us, betting on college football has poor odds.
Not poor odds, HORRIBLE odds. This game keeps me watching football all day without dozing off. lol
Steveg and wife, we need John to put up the Fresno State/SDSU game Oct 30. If I have any “Welds” by then.
Back to my strategy of betting small on multiple games. I lose every time that I do that. Honestly, I hope that I lose all 3 bets.
Colorado +7.5 1,000
Notre Dame -4 2,000
Ucla -3.5 3,000
As of now, I like both ND and UCLA to cover, especially the Irish, who I think have a really good team this year. CIN in South Bend? I’m just not feelin’ if for Luke Fickell, who played NG for OHIO ST from ’93-96, and started in their Rose Bowl win over ASU in ’97. Such a tough loss for the Sun Devils that day. I don’t think the Bearcats will come that close to beating the Irish. I’ve never seen USC beat ND in South Bend and have been there a few times. The year Marinovich lost was especially… Read more »
Yep, I was there too, and it sure looked like Tumultuous Todd would Turn the Tide. But no cigar.
None of these games appears to be an easy bet, but have to go with SC playing a better game than last Saturday night. But I don’t have Chris’ cajones.
USC -7.5 for 8,000
USC -7.5 for 12000
Jumbo balls there Chris. Love your faith. Hope you win.
