I noticed Clarence Davis has a cast on his leg/foot, but couldn’t find a reference to an injury. (Google let me down) One place did mention that he had his front teeth knocked out during a game, he then had his gums sewn up and went back in.
They all are under-40 in this picture, so it must have been taken some time in the 1980s. They probably have changed their appearances in the past 40 years, especially and obviously the deceased Bell.
But look how dapper, trim and fit they all are. It kind of makes you proud to be a Trojan.
What’s the worst USC could finish in the Pac-12 South standings this fall? Trojans mailbag (The Athletic, Antonio Morales): “I don’t think it’s inconceivable that USC finishes third in the Pac-12 South this season. Just think of it this way: The Trojans had to scratch and claw to beat Arizona State, Arizona and UCLA last season. The Sun Devils and Bruins will be better this season. So will Utah. USC lost really important pieces from last year’s team — left tackle/first-round pick Alijah Vera-Tucker and safety/Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Talanoa Hufanga — that it might not be able to adequately replace this fall. Ed Orgeron’s hot seat got warm very quickly after last year’s 5-5 season. The Athletic spoke to an anonymous SEC rival assistant to pick his brain on LSU’s decline from its national title, its chances for a rebound and their thoughts on LSU’s quarterback competition. “There’s complete turnover on both the offensive and defensive coaching staff. Complete turnover. That’s brutal. Is Ed (Orgeron) going to get too involved? Because Ed knows just enough to be dangerous. I really don’t think he knows a whole lot about offensive ball … but he knows enough to be dangerous, and he can get too… Read more »
I will be rooting for LSU. I don’t really get the “pull for the conference” thing. I don’t care if everyone else loses as long as we win. I think the “SEC” chants are just stupid.
It’ll be very interesting to see how Ed Orgeron bounces back from a 5-5 season after winning the NC with maybe the best team of all-time, and at worst, surely one of the most talented and dominant ever. The pressures always on LSU, especially Louisiana, to be good. The Athletic: “But it seems like some people have (already) forgotten that (2020 national championship), and I understand that — 5-5 doesn’t cut it, and there’s no excuse,” Orgeron said. “Gotta get better.” Yet through one season, amid a pandemic and racial tensions and Title IX scandals and mistaken hires, Orgeron has… Read more »
Y’all have no idea how highly Tebow is thought of down here in the SouthEast. Great athlete, a winner. A man of God. The last item means nothing in the largely “faithless” zones of the Northeast and the West Coast but that means something down here in the South. Just my observation—don’t get pissed off everyone.
I had a dream last night and Tim Tebow was prominently in it. Who knew that Urban Meyer could so substantially affect my dream life even though USC refused to hire him before he went to the NFL instead!
Don’t worry about the faithless west coast Doc, there is still a lot of us faithful carrying on. The churches just got done taking the governor to court and he lost and has to pay 1.4 million for legal fees. The noise often comes from the minority, as it does in this case.
Three Heisman winners and at least two who more should have been. But they didn’t do it alone. That’s the difference between then and now. The stars are on their own and coaches without know how to use them properly.
Bruce Feldman says he figures USC for 8-4 this year, and thinks the South is actually a total toss-up (he really likes UCLA QB DTR at this stage). Basically, he thinks the USC defense is suspect, as well as the long disrespected USC OL, and Hotseat Helton inspires no one. This is pretty par for the course in terms of how the majority of the media view the 2021 Trojans, I think. Oh, Feldman also likes Slovis, assuming he doesn’t go down in a heap, as many predict he will again this season. In that case, bring on Jaxson Dart.… Read more »
Greg Katz has the same take. 8-4 and no better than 2nd in the Pac 12 South. Stu Mandel is the most pessimistic of the media and has SC at 6-6 and no better than 3rd. I think most expect Slovis will go down sometime this season.
I’ve always thought Stu occasionally was too hard on, or pessimistic about USC football. But he’s a very smart guy, so I respect his thoughts. But I can’t peg USC for 6-6 in 2021. That’s just too bad, and USC has one of its easier and well laid-out schedules IMO. This is a talented team with holes at coaching, OL, and LB. But the passing game should be lights out and I think USC will run the ball a little better. If guys like Carr and Stepp had to transfer out of Trojan Land in search of more playing time,… Read more »
Greg Katz has an article up where he links some great SC football videos. OJ’s run is one of them. I watched it several times. You know I am in Stu’s camp on the 2021 season. I now think Clay is gone with an 8-4 season and a second place in the Pac 12 South.
I am. I see it the same way Antonio Morales whom you quote above sees it. SC will not be as good in 2021 as it was in 2020. ASU and UCLA (both of whom should have beaten the Trojans in 2020) will be better. ND is clearly better. I think Slovis goes down early and SC will have to play Jaxson Dart. I think Utah, SJS, and BYU are toss ups. Clay is good for two losses this year to teams that SC should easily beat.
I think Double-Threat Dart will eventually be better than Slovis. Hope we see Dart playing some as a frosh.
I still say 8-4, which isn’t very good and would only get USC to a crap bowl game. Hopefully, if that happens, Helton is still jettisoned. But there’s always the chance he could survive into 2022, even with those numbers. Bohn has always done a great job of not letting us know what Helton needs to do to keep his job.
8-4 will be be a crappy bowl and maybe not top 25. My guess is the New Commissioner will pressure SC to upgrade (my guess is that has already happened). I think Clay is gone next year.
There’s a lot of talk from Trojan fans about the new commish now pressuring Helton and Bohn to start winning more. For some reason, I can’t picture how that conversation goes down without Bohn and Helton saying, “Ya. We already got that message a long time ago.”
Allen, I suggest you have it backwards. The new Commissioner will tell Folt and Bohn, that if they keep Clay it will cost SC say $10,000,000 a year in lost media revenue; assuming the new Commissioner is competent, he will then point out the lost attendance revenue Clay is costing SC, which is probably doubly that figure annually, and then ask how much in donations Clay is costing SC annually, which is probably at least equal to the media hit. So, do you want to make $40,000,000 a year extra money or do you want to keep Clay? He should… Read more »
Really? Helton and Bohn, both mature adults, actually need to be told by someone (anyone) that a poorly performing, incompetent football program costs USC a lot of money across all fronts, and that this has always been the case? Gee, who knew? @TrojanRJJ, I’m again saying this has been obvious to even the average dolt (me included) since USC and Notre Dame first decided to play in the Roaring Twenties. The new commish is going to be responsible for the complete restructuring of the new Pac-12 media contract going forward, hence more money in USC’s pockets. That will definitely happen… Read more »
Allen, Sorry for the condescending tone of my post. It was poorly written. My inartfully expressed point was that Folt will be under additional pressure. Bohn will also be able to use Clay’s removal as a bargaining chip with the Conference (no Thursday or Friday night games, for example). I think we all agree Folt is an existential threat to SC Football. Clay is not really the issue; Folt is. Imagine removing Clay and replacing him with say Kevin Sumlin or Willie Taggart or Lovey Smith. You correctly state that her choice is to allow Bohn to upgrade SC football… Read more »
Absolutely no need to apologize for anything Rjj. We all agree that Folt has been holding back football, while Mike Bohn is trying to chip away at her insistence on Helton. I have real questions about how much sway George Kliavkoff, or anyone, will have over her. The more, obviously the better. What just happened with USC women’s basketball encouraged me greatly, though others doubt any spillover of that approach to Trojan football. They could be totally right. I have no idea what USC’s Coliseum attendance figures will look like in 2021. But Folt’s already seen what’s coming. At least… Read more »
From an alumni perspective, what Folt and her troops have done to the Alumni Association is a disgrace. Disbanding the local club structure in favor of a regional model has been a recipe for disaster. Now that I live in Northwest Arizona, I’m a member of the Southwest Region. There are only 11 other members encompassing the states of Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. Formerly, between the Las Vegas and Phoenix clubs alone, there were close to 100 members. I’ve ceased all donations to USC because Folt is a Dolt and has ruined the school, football included. I wonder what… Read more »

What you say here is so fundamentally true rlee. USC’s support groups have been intentionally destroyed by both Folt and Caruso. So sad, and incomprehensible at the same time for me.
rlee, I have also ceased all donations. It may not work, but it is the only steps we can take. I read a post where donations are only 10% and athletics are 10%. If both collapse, then maybe there is a chance for change. We can also hope for Allen’s thought she will have massive political pressure from the national press. I mean it makes no sense she would protect and support women’s BB and destroy Football. But, ideologs rare follow logic.
Wow, we will never have this group photo again. Ricky Bell RIP Trojan. I also got to see all of these men run for the Trojans live in the Coliseum. i guess it shows our age, but I am happy I saw them all.
@danielmcd1 I was fortunate enough to see all of them live as well. They could all sure carry the mail. The world seemed a much simpler, and in some ways, better place back then. Student Body Right couldn’t last forever, but the memories have.
Seeing OJ here, possibly the greatest Trojan RB of all time, still makes me wonder how he ever became a crazed killer of two innocent people, then miraculously got away with it — until he decided to gift wrap himself back into a prison uniform for an armed robbery. Just goes to show, you never know.
I agree 100% Allen. He had everything going for him then turned upside down. My first game live in the Coliseum was the classic 1967 USC vs UCLA game where OJ ripped off that 64 yard run. Many don’t know he also was a member of the 4×110 YARD relay team that still holds the world record of 38.6. Wideout Earl McCollough was also on that relay team.
You sure picked a heckuva game to indoctrinate yourself to USC football @rleeholder1! Wow. What a contest! USC had no passing game, but with OJ in the backfield, anything could happen on any play.
I never get tired of watching that 64-yder whenever it shows up on TV. Watching it in slow motion is even better.
The first 15 yds of that OJ gallup are almost magical in their artistry!
I was very fortunate to have seen all of these great tailbacks play for USC live in the Coliseum. Ricky Bell was my classmate in ’77, may he R.I.P. Each of them had their own style and winning attitude. I wish SC could start a run again with a group of great running backs!
You are spot on Steveg! Guys like Anthony Munoz, Brad Budde, Don Mosebar, Marvin Powell and Roy Foster, to name a few, really opened up holes for running backs. SC needs to start a running game now by building a great O-Line.
Tommy Trojan & Marilyn Monroe.
I would absolutely love to see a picture of those two! 🙏 Someone with great photoshop/or whatever skills please make it happen.
I noticed Clarence Davis has a cast on his leg/foot, but couldn’t find a reference to an injury. (Google let me down) One place did mention that he had his front teeth knocked out during a game, he then had his gums sewn up and went back in.

This stuns me:
Tim Tebow merchandise is dominating the NFL’s online sales. All five Tebow items are the top sellers on NFL.com.
Y’all have no idea how highly Tebow is thought of down here in the SouthEast. Great athlete, a winner. A man of God.
