This Reggie Bush Documentary Will Be Wildly Anticipated

Reggie Bush, USC to Be Focus of Documentary: ‘I’m Finally Ready to Tell My Story’

Joseph Zucker (Bleacher Report)  —  Former NFL running back Reggie Bush will be the focus of an upcoming documentary that details his storied college career at USC.

“After all these years I’m finally ready to tell my story, I hope this can help drive change with the next generation of student-athletes,” Bush said of the project to Variety’s Brent Lang.

We’re making some progress, but there’s still a long way to go.”

Bush was the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner and helped the Trojans claim a national championship in 2004. However, his and the school’s achievements during that time were wiped from the record books amid allegations of major infractions across multiple programs.

Regarding Bush, the NCAA determined he had received improper benefits, which led him to forfeit his Heisman.

The sweeping changes—both in perception and practice by the NCAA—regarding name, image and likeness have led to scandals such as those involving Bush to be looked upon in a different light. The 36-year-old issued a hugely publicized statement asking for his Heisman win and college records to be restored.

The Heisman Trust responded to say it can’t reverse course until the NCAA formally reinstates him.

Even though it will be covering a period that’s 16-plus years ago, a documentary about Bush’s USC run remains as compelling as ever.

The film is being produced by Believe Entertainment Group, the same studio that produced Kobe Bryant’s Oscar-winning “Dear Basketball.” Kirk Fraser is set to direct with Bush directly involved as an executive producer.

“Providing Reggie with the opportunity to tell his story, in his words and reclaim his legacy is a parable greater than this one man,” Fraser said in a press release. “The heart of this story will explore one of the most infamous controversies in college football history and reveal the ongoing contentious culture inside collegiate sports.”

I love it! I want SC predicted to win the South and go 11-1. Then Clay the Cat and his Meows will take the field and SC goes 7-5 (I still think 6-6 but will go with Rock’s 7-5 for sake of argument) and finishes 4th in the South. Any quality analyst knows SC has a subpar OL, a simplistic O scheme, a subpar interior run D, has no one to replace its best D player (Hufanga) and Clay The Cat as our HC. I wonder if Yahoo is paid to promo SC?

I do not blame Bohn for present state of SC football. My guess is he would have replaced Helton but Folt intervened.

I blame The Cat. He is incompetent but cunning. In 2019, SC had tremendous OL talent, clearly the best in the Pac and among the best in the nation. GH was allowed to waste it completely. I do not blame GH as he was simply in over his head. He needed guidance and leadership. Had someone like a Saban or even a Mac Brown been the HC, I think GH would have been able to learn how to use an OL in his O scheme. The Cat is simply incapable of doing that. So, GH was left totally on his… Read more »

I blame Bohn, and we all should. He should not have taken the job without an assurance of full autonomy to replace Clay if he felt it was right. If he received that assurance, and those above him said “no” when he wanted to replace Clay, he should have resigned. Bohn took a lot of pressure off of Folt and her crew by accepting the AD position and painting the decision to keep Clay in the media as his. Keeping Clay was his first major decision and he has to own it. It is unbecoming as the guy at the… Read more »

Nailed it Rock, and now he has taken himself out of the picture pretty much not appearing where he should. I hope he has not just taken the route of now just going through the motions.

I can’t wait to see this show. I Imagine it opening with the beginning line from the movie “TheJerk” an ancient Steve Martin vehicle. I’ll wager the show will not bring the contrite apologies some people feel he owes the Trojan faithful. Still it should be more entertaining than an I Love Lucy rerun.

I agree with you Allen 100%. Reggie will always be the guy who murdered our Football Program and OJ will be the murderer outside of football. I can’t even stand to listen to Reggie on FOX College Football Preview and the few NFL broadcasts that had him. He’s a slippery personality and anyone who shacks up with Kim Kardashian is a bum in my mind. Bring the subject of what Reggie did up to Pete Carroll and he’s even more slippery than Reggie. The guy who should have won the Heisman if it weren’t for sanctions levied by the Pacific… Read more »

Allen, great story about C.R. My Grandmother told me about him as well as “Jaguar” Jon. There is a great U-tube video on Jon’s football career with both USC and the Rams. C.R. is interviewed along with Frank Hall who was the QB. It’s a bit long but well worth the watch for a USC and L.A. Rams football fan like me. I also like U-Tube video on Norm Van Brocklin’s quips and lines from football games. Norm was a very salty and colorful guy, and it’s amazing to me what he got away with when he was cursing the… Read more »

Cannot wait to see the “Reggie Story as Envisioned by Reggie Bush.” A revisionist addict, Mr. Bush just does not get it. He hopes his story can “drive change” with future footballers. Change has arrived Reg, players can now get paid, but it had nothing to do with you…. Yes, the benefits you and your family received would probably pass muster today because of the rules’ changes. But accepting free rent on an expensive home was against the rules in 2004-2005… Similarly, marijuana busts in 2004-2005 were common, and men got years in prison for what today they would not… Read more »

i agree with everything you said, LJ. Does anyone here think that Reggie would be suddenly wanting to tell his story now, if it wasn’t being framed and cushioned around NIL, and how it should have been allowed all along. He’s going to play a victim, leaving key facts out, and will in no way admit culpability or apologize, IMO. I hope I’m wrong. Others here are more forgiving, and even though I moved on a long time ago, will not feel better about him as a person without a heart felt admission and apology. Revisionist is the perfect label,… Read more »

A little over six weeks till game day and here we are hearing about Reggie Bush. He got his NIL when it wasn’t eve a thing yet, got his millions, made his momma happy, now he has a prime job on Fox. Why does this come up right before season starts. Media days are about to kick off all over the nation, the hype is flying out like never before, and The Cat is now looked at as the best coach in the Pac12 conference. This is truly the time of year when the BS is so deep you can’t… Read more »

I’m not really sure how I feel about CFB this year. I’ve been a CFB die hard fan for a long time but the more that money becomes the focus then the less interested I think I will become.

Money has always been a big part of CFB and been talked about but if
I can’t talk about CFB without talking about money then I’m probably out.
