The loss of Mr Bobby Bowden will create a hole in the college football world that will never be filled again, He was truly one of a kind and influenced thousands of lives in a positive way. RIP coach.
91, pancreatic cancer. Bobby Bowden was a great one, and certainly one of the nicest and most gentlemanly to ever coach the game. He introduced me to Burt Reynolds and Ann Margret (now 79) at one of his bowl practices one day. Everyone sure enjoyed and liked being around him.
Tampa Bay Times — “Bobby Bowden, the folksy Florida State University coaching legend who turned the Seminoles from an irrelevant college football outpost into one of the biggest daggum dynasties the sport has ever seen, died early Sunday morning. He was 91..”.
On the theme of player development, here are some comments from USC to TN transfer Caleb Tremblay:
Tremblayโs position coach is Rodney Garner. The USC transfer mentioned it has been great to play for Garner.
โHeโs a real technician,โ Tremblay said. โI feel like Iโve already made a lot of growth, even though weโve just had three fall camp practices.
โEven in those three days, Iโve made a lot of growth as a player. Iโm excited to work for him and see where it ends up. Iโm going to show up every day and work.โ
Itโs going to be another roller
coaster season. Iโm Southern California dreaming of a PAC-12 championship, and in loo (pun intended) of that, Clay Helton being flushed down the lousy coach commode. It seems like the possibilities are win/lose, lose/win, and against all odds, win/win.
Greg Katz at WeAreSC.com just completed his season preview and is still at 8-4, though his analysis predicted 9-3. The entire season is probably going to come down to the injured being able to play. For example, SC’s NTs are the transfer from AL, who is still hurt and not able to practice (although he is doing non-contact drills), Pepe (a 3 star out redshirt frosh out of Bosco with no experience, but he was the defensive player of the year for his league), and Sekona (a 3 star redshirt frosh with no experience). I cannot recall an SC interior… Read more ยป
Good luck to TJ! He was really thrown into a firestorm at USC from the moment he stepped on campus. To his credit, he has emerged as even a better football player and QB at GA.
Interesting to hear about his experience with a sports psychologist. During my son’s Sr. year in HS, there was high expectations for him from the coaches and his teammates. The season started poorly for him personally. At the suggestion of one of the team physicians, we talked to the Braves’ psychologist who referred my son to a professional. Two or three visits was all it took for my son to get things turned around between the ears. He had a great senior season as did the team that season. ๏ปฟ๐๏ปฟ
John, Thanks for the post. JT is clearly better off at GA than SC. In fact, he is extremely lucky he got out when he did. I really fear for Kedon in this O scheme behind this OL. He has only one WR with whom he has any experience to speak of.
U.S. runners (from left) Sydney McLaughlin, Dalilah Muhammad (USC), Athing Mu and USC’s Allyson Felix (the most decorated US track athlete ever) celebrate winning the gold medal in the women’s 4×400 meter relay at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Felix is such a hero. She is so humble, giving, and loving to those around her, she tries to deflect the spotlight onto others instead of herself. This is what an Olympic hero should be, a perfect example to younger girls.

100% true Steve. Sports, college and professional, need more like him. RIP Bobby.

And Bowden never had any perverts on his coaching staff, unlike St. Joe Paterno did at PSU….

Felix is incredible. You always have a chance to win with her available.
She’s the GOAT among Olympians with 11 medals! Great to see her long-standing excellence rewarded with such acclaim and worldwide respect.
