Behind a slew of highlights by Drake London, USC runs over Colorado 37-14…
Drake London was a human highlight reel in USC’s victory over Colorado on Saturday, proving he’s one of the most dynamic playmakers in college football.
Steve Henson (LA Times) — Drake London (15) strengthened his reputation as the nation’s most dangerous receiver, making several acrobatic, game-changing plays in USC’s surprisingly one-sided 37-14 win over Colorado on Saturday at Folsom Field in Boulder.
London made a leaping catch for a big gain on the Trojans’ first scoring drive and made a similarly athletic catch to set up another first-half score – his own on a one-handed catch in the end zone.
But he wasn’t done. London finished a 17-yard pass play by leaping over a defender, keeping his feet and driving for several more yards, setting up the Trojans with a first down at the Colorado eight as the third quarter came to an end.
London, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound junior from Moorpark High, finished with nine catches for 130 yards. He entered the game leading the nation with 540 yards and was tied for the lead with 39 receptions.
Credit quarterback Kedon Slovis with getting London the ball. Slovis completed 19 of 29 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. In addition to London’s score, Slovis found Michael Trigg on a 53-yard score and hit Gary Bryant Jr. from 17 yards.
USC improved to 3-2, rebounding from an embarrassing defeat at Oregon State a week ago.
The win improved USC to a perfect 15-0 against Colorado.

The trifecta, USC win, Little gutties and ND lose in the same Saturday. Better go buy a lotto ticket. Seriously, we were 1-0 this week. We have the Utes this Saturday at home, which has not been very good this year so far and that should be the focus. Beat Utah. Forget everything else. Yes Colorado probably is not good, but we had them on the schedule and we need to beat them and we did in their stadium. I will take it. Stanford and Oregon State won. They both are pretty good and will have winning seasons I am… Read more »
We win and gutties are getting handled, good football day.
Couldn’t agree more, Chris, a nice “nightcap” to end the day. UCLA just can’t handle prosperity. We better hold off of the “Chip is a genius again” praise. I guess we aren’t the only hot mess in town. Love it!
I wouldn’t get too excited about beating Karl Dorrell’s dumpster fire program. USC now has a one-game winning streak against a horrible team that has never managed a victory over USC in its entire history, We even ran for something like 218 yds. Has USC junked the Air Raid?
Ha! I’m not too excited. I’m realistic. Any USC win and UCLA loss in the same day is just a little ray of sunshine. Bad day for the conference, for sure, when the perceived two top teams go down. I hope USC has junked the air raid for the pistol, or whatever the hell that was. On our weekly coaching wishlist derby, both Franklin and Fickell shined on prime time. Hard to argue that the two best defenses in the country right now are Georgia and Penn St. IMO
Ya, I don’t know what offense USC is running now, but it’s suddenly way better than the one it tried to run against STAN and ORE ST. A couple more wins like this and Donte might work himself back into the coaching conversation (just joking, I think…)
Slovis — “A culmination of the first four games kind of motivated us. You might not have seen it, but we were building toward this.”
Allen, I did not recognize the offense either. I listened to the Cardinal/Ram game, and the announcers said he KK had learned that you cannot run the Air Raid at a championship level without a strong run game. Perhaps GH is learning the same thing? At least, SC has hugely upgraded its RBs so that having a run game is now at least possible. The issue now is scheme and the OL. Against CO, the OL was not overmatched, CO was not ready for it, and CO was unable to adjust. (Dorrell provided a much needed transition from Oregon State… Read more »
Allen, seeing the running game put up over 200 yards is what I liked most about the game. That and the laser Slovis threw to Gary Bryant Jr after looking off London. I’m going to stop complaining about Slovis’ regression and support the kid to make more throws like he did to Bryant and like he did as a Freshman. Having been a former HS QB myself in the early 70s, having a “go to” guy like London can be an excellent decoy. Just look his way then go the opposite way or dump it to a tight end. What… Read more »
If you are watching the ucla game you will notice they have a center trained by Toa also.
I saw some bad snaps today. It brought back old, bad memories of USC vs TEXAS in Austin.
JT Daniels got a bad rap his Freshman year, but a lot of it had to do with having to field bad snaps, either bouncing off the ground in front of him or sailing over his head. He was always running for his life and he’s not good in those situations. You need a guy like Jaxson Dart with some wheels to make some plays with bad snaps and protection. Why the OC didn’t go to a QB under center approach back in 2018 will always be a mystery to me.
Out of the first 36 games on the TV schedule there were 14 upsets with 4 of the top 10 getting beaten, Penn St is still playing. We still have 10 games left to finish on the schedule. What a day.
Call me nuts but as I watch Boston College vs Clemson I think USC could beat either of these 2 teams …..Clemson plays like crap .
I really hope we stay with the changes we saw on the defense today. Base 4-3 worked well. I can’t remember a blitz.
Drake Jackson was a man playing with boys today. Defensive player of the game no doubt. Drake and Drake show. The defense seemed much more able to stay home and cover their zones, I didn’t see much if any confusion and missed assignments. The players seemed comfortable in what they did today.
Agreed. Other than the big TE play which was clearly missed coverage, there was just solid defense.
I can see Cincinnati moving up into the top 5, right behind Iowa and Penn St if they win. Iowa could go to #3. I still think Georgia had the tougher opponent today and should move ahead of Alabama. Old Miss scored 21, Arkansas got blanked by Georgia.
Sound familiar USC fans? (Clemson fan forum) >>>>>>>>>>Tiger 80….. https://forums.theclemsoninsider

At some point our position coaches need to be held accountable. They are either not teaching very well or they don’t have the right people in the game. With all the talent we have on our team, I think it is more likely that it is poor coaching.
The 12-0 Boston College ? …..We will see !
My brothers team (Boston College) might be able to defeat Clemson (and contend for a conference championship).
I don’t know whether to be happy or sad. Clearly Drake has escaped the Helton effect. Just as clearly he belongs in the NFL. All that talent wasted on poor coaching. Wait til next year or in our case next decade.
Wow! Stanford wins in OT. Wish they could have beaten UCLA last week
Ya, I love watching UCLA lose whenever possible. I hope ASU hands it to those little gutties tonight in the Rose Bowl.
I really can’t believe STAN won that game. ORE seemed strangely lackadaisical with two mins to go. I don’t believe the Ducks thought they could lose. Not Mario Cristobal’s finest outing, that’s for sure.
David Shaw has somehow put together a much better team than I thought possible over the summer.
Saben 24-0, wins by 21! I’m playin’ with house money now!🤑🤑🤑
Bohn to Fickell’s agent, “now how many zeros do you want on this check?”
Who was that team playing the Buffaloes? They had SC Trojan unis on but that’s not the team I’ve been watching the past month. Is Colorado that bad? Karl Dorrell hasn’t been a head coach in 14 years!
I’m totally rooting for STAN to beat ORE in OT now, even though it’ll kill the Pac-12’s meager chances. The pain would be very deep for the Ducks.
Quack, Quack, Quack. Pac 12 cannibals itself again.
Stanford has turned around and saved David Shaw’s job.
