POST UPDATED WITH RESULTS OF YESTERDAYS GAMES (9/12)
TMC4USC is Currently in first place with 26000 units and Trojans562 is in second place with 23000 units.
I don’t know about you but having all these games to watch yesterday while experiencing the high and lows of everyone’s wagers made the whole day very exciting for me. Thank you for participating!

Way to go UW!!!! You rolled over and died and I picked up 10,000. Take solace Huskies. Yours was not the worst loss of the night. That took place in the Coliseum.
Man I know I took a beating, the upsets were running high Saturday. I am sure the polls are going to have some huge changes as reality sets in for coaches and writers, after seeing a couple of games now they can make some sound judgements. As long as they can keep their egos and biases out of the vote.
Great work so far John, I appreciate your time spent on the contest. Now onward to week 3. Got to recoup some losses. This just shows why I quit gambling, can’t take the losing.
Interesting how most of us posters did not do well last week, and yet many are swinging for the fences this week. Betting nearly 50% of your 20,000 allotted points on one week’s games is, how do we put this, reckless. If you were betting real money like this in ‘Vegas they would send a limousine to pick you up and comp you with a $500 room.
When you see a potential big opportunity go for it. Buckeyes, Wolverines and Trojans, Run It Up Big tomorrow! Easy to go big when it is not real money but it sure is fun!💲🏈
Vegas was not built on winners.
Hah, hah, hah. So true. Though I’m not a big gambler, I did leave Vegas once with about a quarter in my pocket after a raucous, out-of-control bachelor party in my mid-’20s.
Our group ran into Pete Rose at the hotel. Little did we know how much he really loved Vegas. Good times.
Ohio St. -10.5 for 1,000
Michigan -5.5 for 750
Stanford/USC Over 51.5 for 750
Texas A&M -16.5 for 500
I know this contest was suggested by a poster, but John and Allen really expanded
on the idea. And, boy, did it sell! I am hooked. I am actually researching teams I never thought about so I can stay in the game with the other more intelligent sports people on this blog.
Thanks boys, you done good!
I have learned that when I am invested in a game I tend to pay more attention to the teams and the game itself, makes Saturdays a lot of fun. Even with the USC aggravations.
I can have $5 in a March Madness pool and suddenly I am crazy for Southern Illinois Saleukis or some other small college BB team.
63.5 Over Oregon/Ohio St for 1,000
Iowa +4.5 for 1,000

I think we’ve got a fantastic contest going on here.

Fight On Trojans! ✌
MICH for how much?
Michigan -5.5 for 500. Good catch Allen – Thanks! ✌
I went big on MICH and put up 2000 TDB dollars, my largest bet by far. UW appears hapless under Jimmy Lake.
Jimmy Lake will soon be joining “Clay The Cat” on the “Hot Seat” if UW loses again to Michigan on Saturday. Good luck!

Erik McKinney (WeAreSC.com) — “USC didn’t score an offensive touchdown for almost 50 minutes of game time, stretching from the 7:01 mark of the first quarter to 2:07 left in the fourth. Starting fast and making big plays in the fourth quarter are two traits a team can build around. But if the Trojans continue to have games where they score six points on eight drives over the span of nearly three quarters, they’re going to get beat, multiple times. The Trojans were held to just one field goal in the third quarter against San Jose State, despite starting with… Read more »
Injury Report From TrojanSports.com (Ryan Young) — Speaking on the Trojans Live radio show on Monday night, head coach Clay Helton provided updates on four injured Trojan players. “Probably the toughest one was Nick Figueroa with an AC sprain. Those are always sensitive. He got a PRP injection yesterday, was feeling a lot better today. We’ll rest him for the next couple days, see if we can get that soreness out and be able to see where he is either Wednesday or Thursday,” Helton said. “Drake (Jackson) was running around today fine (thigh). Chris (Steele) was running around today fine… Read more »
TCU +9.5 for 500
Utah -6.5 for 500
Michigan -5.5 for 500
Stanford +15.5 for 1,000 (Clay covers for two weeks in a row? I doubt it.)
I think the Cardinal are pretty bad this season. The Cat could cover again! OMG! What is the world coming to?
OMG! Is right. I don’t know what is more disconcerting. You saying nice things about the Bruins or the Cat covering the spread.
You must not have watched UCLA destroy LSU, eh?
The Bruins ran roughshod over Ed O’s overmatched group and just toyed with the Bayou Ballers.
Clearly, USC fans definitely can’t stand hearing such widespread reporting of little gutty dominance. I predict you’re going to have to stop reading the sports section, unfortunately.
I haven’t seen the Bruins this good since the days of Cade McNown over 20 years ago (and yes, I have always believed in the Curse of Cade!).
I’ll be very interested to see where USC and UCLA stand in both polls today.
UCLA looked good both weeks. Week one they dominated a team they should have and beat up LSU in week 2—a talented SEC roster. Helton’s teams seldom (the reality is never) crushes a lesser talented team and always struggles (a charitable description) against top tier teams. Only the most irrational USC fail to see that UCLA will be formidable this year. I guess they could fall apart , but I doubt it.
Ya, I can’t see why Choc Chip Kelly’s suddenly excellent tribe would suddenly fall apart. I can easily see USC vs UCLA for the Pac-12 South title, even though either UTAH or ASU could squeak into that game.
Allen, everything you say about ucla could very well be correct, but the fact that you are saying it has us all doing a double take. So unusual, especially coming from you, but it is making the season a little more interesting. Would you say you have climbed on the bandwagon?
Poor me. I’m having to face what I consider the big threat that is finally UCLA football. USC has had a great run against the little gutties since the Cade McNown years, except through the Brett Hundley years. I forced myself to rewatch the LSU/UCLA game, just to make sure I hadn’t watched a mirage. What I saw was the UCLA team that UCLA fans have been begging for, for many years now. The Bruins are quick, fast, tough, big, experienced. confident (all of last season’s close losses has really helped this group), hungry, and very talented on both sides… Read more »
Allen, As I posted in response to Rock, we both think this Bruin team is NOT a mirage. Simple really. The O is based on the OL, the run game, and outstanding RBs, and NOT on the QB and the WRs. We will know for certain by the end of October. By then UCLA will have played ASU (at the Rose Bowl), UW (in Seattle), Oregon (at the Rose Bowl) and Utah (in SLC). You have to give it to Chocolate Chip. He said that it would take him 3 years to build a team and please judge him in… Read more »
@TrojanRJJ The Cat once said we would be good by November, didn’t he? Or was it October? History revealed otherwise, but Clay The Cat Helton lives on as the most aggravating long-term coach in the history of USC football by far.
My recollection is that he said November. It was the 2018 season and SC proceeded to go 0-4 for November. Helton has made so many false predictions that I have lost count. SC was going to be a power run team (it is now a finesse team based on the QB and the WRs), he was taking over as head disciplinarian and was going to lower the penalty yardage (it actually went up) and so on and so on.
Great memory RJJ
Allen, probably the most aggravating coach in football history. Period.
Works for me. I think Paul Hackett had most of us on the run too, but he was only HCing USC for three years, and those were the days when the USC leadership still really cared about being good in football.
Once said? I recall it being an annual utterance after either a loss or lackluster win.
I was trying to cut The Cat some slack. Clearly, it didn’t work! Busted.
One more contrast I observed was UCLA played with fire in their guts whistle to whistle while USC seemed to be taking an afternoon nap for most of the game.
USC is still trying to figure things out. I’m good at afternoon naps now though. Maybe Clay could use me!
My disgust with The Cat is clearly clouding my judgment, but I figured that K-State is a better team than SC (and I think it is), was extremely motivated (the rejection of the Big 12) and Stanford will improve from Week 1 to Week 2. On the other side, the SC D played probably as great a game as it is capable and I doubt we see two D turnovers (which really decided the game) against the Cardinal. GH does not vary his O – his philosophy is to practice a few plays and out execute your opponent. I doubt… Read more »
My STAN insider friends seem to think the Cardinal is basically hopeless under David Shaw now. They are fed up. Lots of holes on the roster. There’s a lot of real football program dissatisfaction on The Farm these days
As if our HC Is not as clueless?
The loser of Saturday’s game will have some explaining to do. Each coach needs to win the game or slip into free fall. Shaw is fully desperate and already switching QBs I (think Helton switching off Browne to Darnold for the UTAH game after looking horrible in Palo Alto). USC has to deal with a lackluster beginning that leaves Trojan fans wondering if GH can start to look like he’s more than just a pedestrian play-caller. STAN has already shown they can be dominated. I think USC will take STAN but I doubt I lay the 15.5 points because the… Read more »
I remember coach Lombardi say “Here is our playbook, now try to stop it”. Execution is everything for an effective offense. His teams were proof. So just running a few plays is okay, as long as you do them right. USC not always so. You can bet London is doubled all game, which will open the avenue to Washington and Manjack. I hope. No expectations here.
Worked well in the 1960’s under one of the greatest coaches of all time. Not certain it will work 60 years later and neither Clay nor GH is to be confused with Lombardi. I just look at the present day Lombardis – NIck Saban and Urban Meyer. They certainly do not follow that approach. In fact, Saban specifically has abandoned that approach. Said it will not work. KK ran a similar approach at Texas Tech. Did not work out too well there.
One of the greatest secrets of Saban is his ability to adjust, create and adapt to changes needed to maintain his edge. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a coach as relentlessly always moving towards success as Saban. He’s never afraid to abandon anything that needs to be left behind. Many coaches just can’t figure that out, period.
Saban and I think Meyer are incredibly gifted at their craft. Helton clearly is not. I do not know if GH is. So far, he has shown himself quite immature and lacking vision. But he is young. People do develop over time. Rarely do you get a Saban, but one can get a Sark or a Lane. Both have clearly grown.
Sark and Kiffen both grew exponentially under Saban. Then went out to experiment with what they learned as they matured. Now both are much more qualified to be where they are. That never happened to CH, and so far GH has only had Littrel to look up to. Clay has never grown a coach, only destroyed them. Another fact that proves he is incompetent.
Steveg, Did you see that both Drevno and Clancy are trying to rehab their careers working for Chip? If Chip pulls out an 12-0 or 11-1 season (and their is a chance that can happen; zero chance it happens at SC), then Chip will have established himself as potentially the next Saban. I hate to say it, but time will tell. Right now, I know that SC has zero chance of going 11-1 and UCLA has at least a 50-50 chance.
I wonder what an “analyst” really does for UCLA football? Break down film? Share packages of Oreos with Choc Chip over lunch?
Clancy dialed up some incredibly bad defenses for USC football. That’s all I remember about the guy, except he was also one of the worst interviews on the planet.
He tries to work his way onto the staff by learning from Chip and showing that he has worth. I doubt Chip will tolerate fools like Clay does.
Clay doesn’t know a quality coach. I think he is in awe of our defensive staff and is baffled by offensive staff, not understanding anything that is really going on. But then we are all a little baffled by the offense anyway.
Honestly I have no idea who coaches for ucla, I had heard Drevno went there, but had no idea Clancy ended up there also. There is a real pair for you. Perhaps Chip will help them evolve into decent coaches over time, he is not a dummy for sure, even though we all love to hate him. Chip obviously came to ucla with a plan, as he did in Oregon, he bases a lot of his team on speed, which ucla has.
In this article, Clancy is literally referred to as a “genius.”

BTW, while I’m eagerly participating in the weekly TDB Football Betting Contests for the fun of it (can’t help myself), I will not be sharing in any winnings (as if I had any chance anyway, which I don’t!) in case you wondered.
You could Venmo your winnings to Bohn for The Cat buyout fund.
I wonder how Bohn is truly feeling these days about the prospects of USC football. I would really like to know the real story there.
Luke Fickell is looking so good. I’m really looking forward to seeing CIN take on IU and ND in their home stadiums.
I think The Cat walks around with a lucky horseshoe in his pocket. Not only does he get a job he shouldn’t have gotten , he gets a ridiculous contract extension from a clueless AD. The administration is in turmoil leading to the dismissal of the President and then the AD. Bohn starts to get his bearings and Covid strikes. Based on his moves so far I think Bohn gets it and knows that the football program is stalled under the Cat. I think in his gut and in his professional judgement he know the Cat must go. And we… Read more »
Well said. I describe this brutal time in USC football history as one in which we Trojan fans are being held “hostage.” I truly feel like that.

After my dreadful week and silly logic (Miami has too much pride to get blown out by Bama, DJ over JT, Eddie O won’t let me down and USC never covers vs weaker opponents in week 1) I am in a 4,000 point hole. I have a friend who is as close to a “gambling addict” as anyone that I know. He has a saying… “You gotta bet big to win big!” So my lone pick of the week is Michigan -5.5 for 10,000 Who knows. I could rocket back up in the standings or I could be begging for… Read more »
