USC quarterback Kedon Slovis enters transfer portal
The former USC starter is off somewhere else, with Jaxson Dart the likely replacement in Los Angeles.
Nick Simon (DraftKings Nation)Â —Â Â Another high-profile college quarterback is officially on the market.
Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported on Monday that USC Trojans signal-caller Kedon Slovis has entered the transfer portal, bringing an end to his three-year stint with the Trojans.
A former three-star quarterback prospect out of Scottsdale, AZ, Slovis arrived on the scene as a freshman in 2019 and held his own after replacing an injured JT Daniels. When the writing was on the wall that he’d be the guy of the future for the Trojans, Daniels transferred to UGA.
In a twist of fate, the same thing happened to Slovis this season as freshman quarterback Jaxson Dart showed potential and upside at times in place of an injured Slovis. With the presence of Dart and a new brand new regime under Lincoln Riley now occupying Heritage Hall, he must’ve figured there wasn’t room for him in the program anymore.
In 27 career games for the Trojans, Slovis completed 68.4% of his passes, throwing for 7,576 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. The question will now focus on where he’ll end up. He could stay in the Pac-12 and go to a number of programs that need quarterback help, including his home-state Arizona Wildcats. Or he could possibly follow former USC/new Georgia Southern head coach Clay Helton to Statesboro, GA. We shall see.

Finally got correct information on the portal. Any team can take up to 25 new players each year as they have scholarships available. If they have over 25 available due to players entering the portal, they can add additional players up to 7 more for a total maximum of 32.
Thanks for the info. It sounds like we are going to get 12-15ish recruits coming in from high school. That leaves a whole bunch of transfers. Not sure we are going to max out our numbers, but if so that means we take about 15ish transfers from portal That’s a huge number. Sounds like the first two are on board with Earl Barquet and Bobby Haskins. Hopefully Ricks is coming our way as well. I’m sure all three would be starters. Ricks would be no matter where he goes.

BREAKING: USC lands commitment from TCU DT transfer Earl Barquet Ryan Young (TrojanSports.com) — The first commitment has come from USC’s big weekend of official visitors. Earl Barquet, a defensive tackle from TCU who entered the transfer portal after the season, announced Monday on Twitter that he has committed to the Trojans. Barquet, who is originally from Marrero, La., redshirted in 2019 and played two seasons at TCU, leaving him with three years of eligibility remaining, thanks to the free year all players were given during the pandemic last season. Barquet, listed at 6-foot-3, 277 pounds, fills a major need… Read more »
QB Spencer Rattler to Transfer to South Carolina After 3 Seasons at OU (BR).
Did he accidentally pick the wrong USC?
I’m not a big Rattler fan. However, I wouldn’t mind seeing Caleb Williams come on board, but that would lead to massive complications/transfers with Dart and Moss.
Crazy Time. LOI Day is nearly here to compound the excitement of it all, the first time in many years that some of us even care to pay attention to the big day after the partial destruction of USC football by Clay The Cat Helton.
Looking forward to Wednesday much more so than I have in the recent past.
Hey Allen, are you going to keep updates going on here? Where is a good place to watch or listen?
I’ll definitely put up a generalized Signing Day Post so people can chime in with whatever they hear all in one spot. Hopefully, we’ll be reading every tip our TDB members have to comment about as the day moves along. I’ll be personally checking every USC site frequently. You know who they all are. They’ll all be pumping out signing info faster than a gas station selling at last year’s prices. I’ll also be checking USC’s official site which in the past has done only an adequate job of announcing signees. With Lincoln Riley here, maybe USC’s performance in this… Read more »
Well said Allen. The days of constant depth issues will be over and 4& 5-star recruits playing at USC will again be the norm.
I used to wonder what pretty good quarterback would do with a better protection system, but that was before I saw Darnold in the NFL. After being coached down, I don’t think Slovis can be saved.
2022 Bishop Gorman safety, Zion Branch (6-2, 195), Nevada’s #1 overall prospect, is down to three: USC, OU and OKS. Expect a Monday announcement.

Crystal ball has him unanimously going to USC. That is a good sign.
Greg Biggins (Irishillustrated. com) — Four-star Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wideout C.J. Williams (6-2, 193) has de-committed from Notre Dame and will make his commitment at the All-American Bowl (Saturday, January 8, 12:00 PM on NBC, San Antonio, Tex). Williams is currently rated the No. 76 player nationally in the 247Sports Composite. It has been a fluid recruitment over the last month or so for Williams. The longtime Notre Dame commitment has decided to open things up. “It was nothing against Notre Dame, it’s a great University,” Williams said. “I have nothing but respect for them and the coaches and… Read more »
Sounds like he kind of likes it but isn’t 100% in. LR will need to do a little more work.

Kedon Slovis is an accurate QB who can be a first-round NFL QB if he finds the right program.
Wow, the Qb’s are bailing. First was Rattler, now Slovis from USC, Calzada from TAM, Bo Nix from Auburn and then the total prima donna Ewers out of tOHS. Several others but not necessarily starters.
Helton and his culture is what made Slovis what he is today. If he goes to GA. Southern it is a fatal mistake. The guy can throw, he just doesn’t move real well, but with a decent line he would be fine anywhere. I feel sorry for him, not for being at USC, but for being at USC under Clay Helton. Like so many others.
I think the “doesn’t move real well” is a reputation Slovis has that is a result of coaching and mindset as opposed to physical capability. He changed my opinion of what he could do if he wanted to when he ran down that interception he threw. That was something like a 40+ yard chase down, and he showed great speed for somebody who “doesn’t move real well”.
I don’t think Slovis will make it in the NFL. I also think he can start for a mediocre team — but would get beat out by another QB on a better team. Aside from his considerable raw ability, I just don’t think he has the “it factor” which dominant QBs possess, and I don’t believe he’s much of a leader either. USC often looked uninspired to me when Slovis was on the field, like they lacked juice. He also seemed overwhelmingly silent when on the sidelines. JMHO.
Perhaps Slovis will go to UCLA. I don’t think he’d work in a Chip system. But Slovis is at least used to playing with no offensive line, so he will fit in that way.
National Signing Day 2021: Five college football teams that can make noise in early signing period (Brandon Huffman, CBSSports.com)USC “Why list a school that is ranked No. 103 overall, 12th in a 12-team conference and has only four known commits? Because USC could start building momentum for a strong close to 2022 and an even bigger 2023. Flipping five-star Mater Dei running back Raleek Brown has offset the handful of decommitments from USC (some encouraged, some not). But USC could still land three more players from Mater Dei in Jackson, four-star LB David Bailey (committed to Stanford but looking) and four-star WR C.J. Williams (committed to… Read more »
WR Drake London and OG Andrew Vorhees both make the AP All-America 3rd team.

So sad, London had the stats to outdo Donta Smith who won the Heisman. Two things he had going against him. His broken ankle, and playing for a Clay Helton coached team.
Follow The Cat to GAS?!?! He can do much better for himself than that.
