USC adds 4-star safety Zion Branch on quiet signing day
Several targets have yet to decide, but the Bishop Gorman High safety picks USC over Oklahoma and Ohio State
Adam Grosbard (OC Register) — It was a relatively quiet first day of the early signing period for USC and new head football coach Lincoln Riley, but the Trojans did make one big splash.
Four-star Bishop Gorman (Nev.) safety Zion Branch announced his decision to sign with the Trojans on Instagram Live, picking USC over Oklahoma and Ohio State.
Branch is the No. 47 prospect nationally, per 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect was the second Gorman defensive back to sign with USC on Wednesday, joining four-star cornerback Fabian Ross, who had been committed to USC since January.
Otherwise, it was a somewhat uneventful signing day for USC. The Trojans did pick up the early-morning commitment of Garrison Madden, a three-star linebacker from Georgia who took an official visit to USC last weekend and held offers from Syracuse and South Florida.
With Branch and Madden in the fold, USC’s signing class jumped up from 105th to No. 80 in 247Sports.com’s national class rankings.
Beyond those two new additions, USC signed the four members of the 2022 class that it had lined up prior to Wednesday: Ross, five-star Mater Dei running back Raleek Brown (#4), three-star edge rusher Devan Thompkins and Australian punter Atticus Bertrams.
But Wednesday was never expected to be a big day for USC, with several targets waiting to sign until Friday and others waiting until after the signing period to announce their decisions.
Five-star Mater Dei cornerback Domani Jackson will sign Friday, the same day that Riley will hold his signing day press conference. A former USC commit, Jackson is choosing between the Trojans and Alabama.
Similarly, another Bishop Gorman standout, four-star edge rusher Cyrus Moss, is expected to sign Friday but will not announce his decision until Jan. 8 at the All-American Bowl. Moss is selecting between USC, Alabama, Oregon, Arizona State and Miami.
Four-star Mater Dei receiver C.J. Williams is another player expected to announce his decision at the All-American Bowl. The former Notre Dame commit reopened his recruitment this week following an official visit to USC.
And four-star Desert Pines (Nev.) running back Jovantae Barnes signed Wednesday but won’t announce his decision until Dec. 28.
So there are still a lot of big-time fish for USC to reel in and announce, but not many more are expected this week as Riley takes the steps to rebuild the USC roster through the 2022 signing class and the transfer portal.

Final Basketball Score:
USC 67 – Georgia Tech 53
Trojans win to go 12-0 with all 5 starters scoring in double digits. Next up is a road game against a very good Oklahoma State on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
My GT alum wife is pissed at me, but then again, I am usually in trouble with her….
I like a basketball team that plays tough defense. SC gets steals and blocks without fouling. If one guy is cold the other guys step in. All their big guys can shoot. That 7′ GT center played tough defense but can’t score. Great game by Ellis, couldn’t hit 3s so used his speed to get inside. Free throws is the only weakness in this team, 59% one of the 5 poorest in college ball, shot 61% today, need to get better, there will be close games where they are gonna need to hit them.
And, has often been reported, elsewhere and here, Andy Enfield is one of the greatest free-throw shooters who ever lived (I think!). Go figure.
Well said Allen. Enfield had one season at Johns Hopkins where he shot 95.3% and held the NCAA record for career free throw percentage of 92.5% for several years. Why he can’t coach his teams to be at least 75% just boggles my mind. My High School basketball coach Bill Westphal (Paul’s brother) had our team shooting 100 free throws before school started.
Only way to get better is to shoot them. Get them up every day. Guys who don’t shoot free throws well just don’t practice them enough. I coach high school kids and all of them shoot at 70 plus, don’t tell me college and pro’s can’t do the same.

Wonder what the thought process Choice was going through. Decides on moving from Georgia to LA then chose Austin at the last minute?
No wonder USC Athletics hasn’t updated the coaching staff roster, musical chairs at McKay Center.
Is choice no longer the RB coach?
I read where GA Tech is pursuing another RB coach. Has something changed?
Scoop: Georgia Tech: We reported late last night that Geoff Collins is planning to make Mike Daniels his new running backs coach.
Yes, here is thelink to the story from Georgia Tech.

He’s going to Texas.
SCOOP: Texas: Tashard Choice, who had recently left Georgia Tech to join Lincoln Riley’s staff at USC, is now expected to join Texas’ staff as running backs coach, Matt Zentiz tweets.
Serious blow to USC.
How serious can it be? He was here for 5 minutes. Just go get another good coach. Even Clay managed to find two good RB coaches.
I think the RB coach position is one of the least important on a staff. JMHO.
I don’t know how important it truly is. What I do know is the really good head coaches seem to win cycling in new assistants all the time, their staffs are constantly poached. Like you, I believe in Riley.
A guy like Riley has amazing access, to both recruits and coaches. I’d sure like to see USC bring in one of those super prep RBs like USC used to do. It’s amazing what a great runner can do because of his genetic lottery advantages (Raleek Brown anyone?).
Maybe Riley will go after RaShad Samples from SMU.
I’d like to see one Alumni on staff, maybe Kennedy Polamalu.
The No. 10 USC Trojans (11-0, 2-0) will take on Georgia Tech (5-4, 0-1) today at 1pm at the Jerry Colangelo Classic in Phoenix, Ariz. The game will air on the Pac-12 Network with J.B. Long and Ernie Kent calling the action. USC is 11-0 to start the season for the first time since 2017, when USC opened the campaign 14-0. The Trojans are one of seven undefeated teams still remaining in college basketball. USC is No. 14 in the NET this week, the chief rankings used for the NCAA Tournament selection and seeding. USC’s 11 wins are the most… Read more »
I love this OL coach hire by LR:
Big Brandon Jones from Houston
I read he was pursuing Jones, is it solid now?
As we saw with Bedenbaugh, he’s either talking to Riley about money and title…ot trying to convince his other half how great LA is. Or, maybe TCU REALLY wants to keep him, because nothing has been settled yet or FOOTBALL SCOOP would have posted it.
U Houston
Ask yourself, would I rather be in Houston or L.A. The humidity itself would answer that question.
He may be waiting until after their bowl game.
You’re looking at this from a subjective position, LA fits you. However, Houston is the 4th largest city in the country, so it’s obvious others see things differently.
As to the later part of your statement, it very well could be. From reading one of the many articles, I believe his wife is a High School teacher.
Well yes I am looking at it subjectively, that is kind of what an opinion is, but after being in Houston a while I can see why so many stick around in CA with all of its faults. More alarmed about possibly losing an RB coach right now. Bad news.
Good for Andy, and USC. Glad he was extended. Overall, Enfield is 168-110 during his nine seasons at USC. He has produced five NBA draft picks, including a first-rounder in each of the past three cycles. He’s also beat UCLA four straight times.
Glad that is done. Enfield has done a nice job building a winning program.
Andy looked like he might be on the ropes to me when the NCAA started looking into convicted felon Tony Bland’s activities. But Bland took the big hit for receiving bribes, and is out of the game if I’m not mistaken. USC hoops cooperated smartly, and got 2-years probation as a slap on the wrist. Andy’s doing better than ever. I’m not sure if Bland’s still on his Rolodex (for those who remember those).
I just realized that there are only 35 – 5 Star rated kids in the whole country this year, same for 2023.
Andy Enfield received a 4 year contract extension running through the 2025-2026 season; no terms were disclosed.
Bohn is on a win streak. Good move because i’m not so sure we could have done better than him right now. I’m curious what it is going to cost SC, because it seemed like Andy had the leverage. He must really want to stay. It’s a good sign that the administration finally realizes the value of paying the price for good coaches.
It has been a LONG time since USC has had a positive vibe in football.
It is about time.
The BOT, Caruso, Felt has bought in.
Lets see if they can put their actions where there mouth is.
Lincoln Riley’s presser was the latest example of how he plans to build this USC program for the long haul, step by step, without rushing, patiently waiting to add only those players who totally buy into USC’s new winning culture. Sound bites: “It all starts with the people, and the players have to fit…speed will always be emphasized at all positions…The numbers will come…We won’t cut corners…We will build this team a piece at a time…Our goal right now is to put a championship roster together. We’ve been there. We know what that looks like…Go slow…Be committed to the cause…There… Read more »
I know it’s just coach speak, but everything about Riley is just significantly better than Clay.
Another telling thing he said that went to the core of culture change; Could have brought in 20 or more from the recruits who expressed desire to come. But that’s not how to build a Champion.’
That’s the thing — it may be coach speak, but you can tell he means it, unlike CH who was just pissing on our legs all the time and telling us it was raining. And you can tell Riley gets it — like when he mentioned he could have flown out to some top recruits he thought we could flip, but that there was too much risk in bringing in a wrong piece with guys they didn’t know — guys that may disrupt the culture and the chemistry he is looking to build. One thing CH left Riley is a… Read more »
Interesting thought that LR could go get a bunch of 5* Prima Donna “It is all about me”, “where’s my million dollars” Guys that would look good on LOI Day but toxic in the locker room. Better to be patient for sure. Hoping by February he has the guys he wants.
Riley’s choice of words suggests that some players had “reached out to him” in some way about coming, but he either didn’t pursue them, or flat turned them down. If so, this is very mature, and a hard temptation to pass up.
Previous coach would never have done that, but rather taken all comers, then beam and crow and strut and gush about the new warriors and championship team he was building…all while having no clue what he doing.
LR is such a breath of fresh air. I’m totally fine with his approach.
The Cat’s sole redeeming feature was a nice personality and even with that he became a cloying obsequious suck-up. As a coach, he just isn’t that good. There are probably 30 high school head coaches in Georgia that are better teachers of football and program leaders than helton.
What’s not to like about his philosophy in rebuilding USC football. When you think about what he says, it’s setting a standard and the determination to follow it and if Riley refrains from cutting corners, it has to create a culture of continual excellence. It won’t be easy for when you have a team of mostly 4& 5-star players, everyone will feel they should be a starter. But if Riley can pull it off, you will have a player development system to where there will be little if any drop-off in team execution season after season. Only Alabama has been… Read more »
And, he’s making a spot on USC’s roster an elite thing again — not something to be doled out based upon a need for mere numbers (which IS as dire need, explaining the temptation Riley pointed out). Those that do join have to convince Riley that they are all in, and that there will be no whining or complaining — just commitment, and tons of it. But if you are the right guy, and you buy in, good things are coming. Also, Riley owes that to the recruits that DO join — that the spots around them won’t just be… Read more »
You have good points as you usually do Rock. I can’t help letting my USC football emotion rev up as it used to during those PC years when the CFB nation hated us. So in addition to the media “doing its thing”, I also expect that envy MG famously referred to in his famous speech responding to the NCAA sanctions to reappear.
Good stuff Rock. I feel like your time table could move up with the portal. Next season will be about getting everybody on the same page with offense and defense playbook. A winning season is likely, especially in the Pac12, 7-8 is possible, I wouldn’t expect 9 or better.
247Sports.com — “Domani Jackson visited USC twice over the last week and said it just feels different there now.
“It has a way different vibe,” Jackson said. “There was always a lot of energy but it’s on another level now.
“Everyone feels so much more connected and together. With coach Riley in place, everyone believes the program is going to win and not just win a little but win Championships.
“Honestly, if Donte wasn’t coming back, I would be going to Bama,” Jackson said. “That’s my guy, he’s been recruiting me since 8th grade and I believe in him…”
247sports.com
Domani Jackson is HUGE get for USC. In football recruiting, on the field future football, I’m excited for USC football.
BUT HECK Domani tied the All Time Calif State 100 Meter record with a 10.25
for anyone who follows T&F that’s huge. His heart is set on the NFL, yet
one could only imagine what his Track future would be if he focused on that. One heck of an athlete ….Fight on Football Dude
The thing that excites me about Domani is he has the one thing missing at USC for a long time, Speed. Now we can chase down someone that breaks away. The fact that Riley has placed great importance on speed at all positions is going to make USC the championship caliber team we have wanted for so long. Now just teach these guys to tackle.
So without Williams, no Jackson, now who else comes? Will dominoes start to fall? Donte earned a spot on the staff with this one.
I have no idea what Donte’s position on Riley’s staff is going to be, but it is clear that he is a great recruiter. It will be interesting to see how Riley handles him. But, all in all, the great swap took place: AL got Ricks from LSU and SC got Jackson. And, Jackson is probably the key to other players. SC now needs DL and LBs. It has two good DL (Tui and Figueroa) and two potentially good to great (Drake Jackson(if he returns and he should) and the true frosh who flamed out this year (cannot even recall… Read more »
And that is probably why Donte is back, because the position group he was responsible for was garbage last year.
It’s official: Domani Jackson is headed to USC.
What a fantastic comeback recruiting victory for USC this is. This bodes very well IMO, and this lynchpin guy can be a springboard to other badly needed Trojan recruiting successes.
Hoping very much Domiani becomes for LR what Shaun Cody did for PC. Fight On!
And Cody chose USC because of the relentlessness of Ed O.
Domani chose USC because of Donte Williams.
It’ll be interesting to see how LR fills out his staff, and what title Donte will have.
You know Allen, I see a great future for Donte at USC now that he is working for a qualifed, talented, and driven HC.
Cody was a great steal for PC. You’re right, Domani is in that same ballpark. May the football gods keep smiling down on DJ, LR, DW, and USC.
Bad Day for ‘Bama. More to come.
B/R — Miami Flips 4-Star Recruit; Mario Cristobal gets HUGE recruiting victory over Alabama with the addition of TE Jaleel Skinner (@jaleel_skinner).
Any word on when we might hear from D Jackson and C Moss? Will have to wait till 2pm with Riley?
Pretty stunning numbers so far: Jon Wilner (OC Register) — “The Pac-12 has signed a total of 32 blue-chip prospects thus far. The SEC has signed 123; the Big Ten, 72. “The Pac-12 failed to sign the top two players in Colorado, the best player in Oregon and the best player in Utah. And once again, it hemorrhaged talent in Arizona, where the top five prospects all signed with programs outside the conference. “As of this moment, the conference has signed five of the top prospects in California, and there’s a good chance it will finish the recruiting cycle with… Read more »
I bet commissioner George Kiavkoff is thinking what have I gotten myself into unless he doesn’t understand the importance of recruiting/protecting your turf and accepts the fact over half the Universities are not going to up their game to make this conference a legit Power 5 member. I don’t think I am over-reacting as this matter has been going on for a long time.
Jamaica, It is to SC’s advantage that at least half the conference has no desire to be elite. They want money and the way to get it for SC to be elite. I think they all now get it. The conference also needs Oregon, WA and UCLA to be elite. I do not think any other team in the conference has a chance to meet that standard. Some (like Stanford and Cal) really do not care to be.
If SC is the flagship of the Pac12 then it is time for SC to negotiate a bigger cut of the conference money pie.
Nwosu picks off Mahomes on the Chiefs two. Chargers lead 21-13 with nine mins left. Love to see Trojans make big plays in the NFL.
He played great, but typical Chargers snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They left so many points off the board by going for it too many times in the red zone, instead of kicking a field goal. It’s one thing to be a bold, young coach, it’s another to be just plain stupid. Staley was a great DC for the Rams last year, but the Charger’s defense is just not championship quality, and they fell apart at the end. It’s too bad, because they are trying to build a following in LA, but can’t win the games they need… Read more »
Mahomes is a clutch magician too. He’s like Joe Montana with wheels. It was a shame. So Chargers.
Chargers brought that losing “tradition” with them from SD.
Indeed, Bohn/Caruso/Folt saved the day when they hired Lincoln Riley. Phenomenal pickup, and thank goodness OU lost that game to OKS, or I don’t believe USC would have landed him then, and maybe not ever. We got lucky, and to Bohn’s credit, he and his staff pounced when he suddenly saw an amazing opening, and USC was ready to act aggressively. It was an astounding piece of work IMO. I loved the total secrecy of it all. What Bohn/Caruso/Folt didn’t count on was that by letting USC football totally degenerate with patchwork staff/admin fix-its until this season, little did they… Read more »
I had a doctor for about 20 years that was a Stanford grad. We always enjoyed it when I came in, and eventually we did talk about medicine.
Allen, thanks for the candid and sobering analysis. I have done a poor imitation to both Chris and Steveg when they were predicting next year. The Cat literally destroyed the SC football program. My guess is he will do the same to GA State. When Lincoln arrived, SC was on a par with AZ. This is a complete rebuild. I read that The Cat had not visited Servite High in over 5 years; and about 3 years ago stopped any meaningful contact with any high school staffs. I have no way to know if that is true, but I do… Read more »
Speedy recovery, Allen. Just the same I would have Dr. ucla’s work checked out ASAP!
Big addition for UCLA
Bruce Feldman — “UCF QB Dillon Gabriel is transferring to UCLA. He has a 70-14 TD-INT ratio the past three seasons. Big addition for the Bruins.”
Lincoln Riley meets with the media tomorrow at 2:00 PM. Hopefully, he’ll be gushing about the addition of superstar Mater Dei CB Domani Jackson, spared from the clutches of Nick Saban. This is a true battle of the heavyweights, and a key “data point” which will be used to evaluate Riley’s start at USC. Without Riley, USC isn’t even in the contest. If USC wins, Riley will be viewed as directly on course and the man with a plan. If Saban wins, it’ll be viewed as an important early setback for Riley, who publicly admits that USC’s dire lack of… Read more »
Allen, I feel that way also. D.Jackson grew up in SoCal and he has heard stories about when SC was great under Pete Carroll–especially since he attended Mater Dei. Coach Riley can sell him by being a unique block in SC’s turnaround story (while living close to where family and friends can stay in touch and watch him play). Yes AL is great, but would he stand out in AL history as just another 5-star attending the big bully on the block? I think Riley can work this angle to open up the young man’s eyes and see the potential… Read more »
We shouldn’t have expected a plethora (wow did I really write that?) of signings yesterday but what actually came about was still a welcomed sight. LR & staff now drawing a line saying “ if we recruit you, being a 3-star player, you will be the exception and not the norm playing here, is a welcomed sight to behold. What I really liked seeing was the majority of signees were defensive players. This in retrospect is a relief to a lot of us.
What to make of USC’s 2022 schedule
Antonio Morales, USC beat writer (The Athletic): “We seemingly say this most years, but the schedule seems manageable for the Trojans and their new coach. There’s a road trip to Utah in October and a date with Notre Dame, but no Oregon on the schedule and no real tough stretch of road games. Depending on how the Trojans’ roster fills out, it could be a solid bounce-back year for USC in its first year under Lincoln Riley.”
Put me down for 9 or 10 wins right now. With a full off season, spring, and fall camp, Riley will have us ready to win against this schedule. Not ready for big time yet, but 2023 and beyond we will be there.
Chris, I am going to differ. Riley is inheriting a mess much worse than PC inherited and Pete went 6-7, with a bad loss to Utah in Las Vegas. Granted we have the portal, but one does not change the roster and the culture that quickly. I would be happy with 7-5 but expect about the same as PC: 6-6. Of course, Riley is able to do what the MSU coach did (he replaced about half of his roster), then maybe we can get as high as 8 wins. ND, UCLA, Utah, ASU, Oregon State, and Fresno State are all… Read more »
I think ASU is toast, and on the way down. I also think WIS will drill Herm Edwards in the Las Vegas Bowl (Dec. 30, 7:30 PT, ESPN).
You truly measure the strength of a football conference by bowl game wins& losses. PAC-12 bowl game wins have been few these last 4-5years. That more than anything tells the sorry state this conference is in compared to not only the other Power 5 conferences but the MWC which probably has a winning overall record versus PAC-12 theses past years. You can’t ignore that especially when your conference supposedly has better coaches & players. Yes ASU will lose their bowl game as will Oregon and Utah will be blown out.
I can’t wait to see UTAH take on OHIO ST in the Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes are clearly beatable this year, just ask ORE and MICH.
Jim Harbaugh laid out a road map to derail the Buckeyes. I don’t know if UTAH has the horses to win the Rose Bowl, but I’d sure like to see that happen. The Utes have overcome so much this year, they might just be special enough to claim their first Rose Bowl championship ever, in their first appearance ever. Go Utes!
Wittingham has worked his way to this point with rock solid coaching. He deserves to win the Rose Bowl and we a pulling for him also. I have talked with tOSU fans and believe me they are worried.
It’s been a bad time lately for Buckeye fans. First, MICH creamed them in a brutal way (like USC did in that long ago Rose Bowl when Charles White went nuts.
Then their hero, Urban Meyer, got humiliated and disgraced both on and off the field in the NFL. It’s a slippery slope Urban.
I’d love to see the Bucks slip back towards the field and lose their hold on the Big Ten for several years. Combine that with USC regaining its stature as a national power again and Rose Bowl regular, and what could be more perfect?
Some analysts are saying that Ryan Day is being mentioned for the soon to be open Chicago Bears job. Do you think Ohio State will entertain bringing Urban back if that happens? I wouldn’t be suprised. I think a lot of schools will act like they are above taking on a guy like Urban and his recent character flaws, but come next year, when coaches are on the hot seat, and large donors are complaining, his name will pop up everywhere. I personally think that if he could get his cushy Fox job back, he would take it in a… Read more »
You can bet there will be some school begging Meyer to come save them. It is how low we have sunk. Any of the Florida schools would take him for sure.
I thought Urban was fantastic on Fox. That’s part of the reason I eventually wanted him at USC.
I think he can still succeed in college and he’ll have good opportunities. Great college coach, great football analyst, horrible NFL coach. Two out of three ain’t bad.
His reply left a lot of doors open. If the offer comes I believe he is gone and guess who will come in to fix it.
Don’t forget that Urban is also the Utes hero too.
Oregon basically has no coaching staff, they will get pounded by Oklahoma. Then again is Venable working on the Alamo Bowl or the CFB Semifinal game?
Venable is from Clemson. The tigers had a good year, but they are not in either of the two semifinal games. Or did I miss something?🙄
My mistake, I was thinking Lanning from Georgia to Oregon. Oklahoma staff is more in place than Oregon.
Wisconsin = 3 yards and cloud of dust all game, ASU can’t win if they never have the ball.
Yes Chris, I can see maybe 9 with the new staff and culture taking over the football program. Just those two things will account for wins in some close games. The attitude of the players is the primary concern, and with a winning attitude you could be right. I just hope we return to form with ucla and give ND a solid run for their money.
Steveg, I am amazed at these predictions. The overall talent on this team stinks. Without Drake London, SC was on a par with AZ! So, the team is not very talented and has had a lousy culture for about 6 years. We need to be realistic. Be happy for 6-6 and take anything over 6-6 as pure gravy. Helton was allowed to crash and to burn SC football. At least, we now have a coach and are moving in the correct direction for the first time in about a decade. I am thrilled at that result. The Cat was allowed… Read more »
RJ, you predict on the low side, I tend to go a little higher. I am not worried whether we go 6-6 or 9-3, we have a long time till the next kickoff happens. Yes, I do think in year 2 will see an obvious difference and by year 3 be playoff capable or darn close. Riley sure has a lot to overcome, but that’s why he is making the BIG bucks, right?
Rice??? C’mon man!! Really? Did the Cat schedule this game?
Wait ’til Friday in December is much better than wait ’til next year in September. A few good players signing a LI could open the flood gates. The next real indicator of USC is back will be spring. If that looks like real football again, I’ll have trouble picking up tickets in the fall. I heard, or maybe it was just a rumor, that the scalpers at the coliseum had to file for unemployment this year. We will move back from Fight Gone to Fight On. I’ll be able to pick a jersey with Helton’s name on it (the only… Read more »
Good stuff.
Boy that is an outstanding description of our journey back from the wilderness.
Cleaning off the Cat Culture that ruined our team over the last few years will be like scraping a wad of dog squeeze mixed with chewing gum and roofing adhesive off of our cleats….
Ha, now that’s a visual, just throw those cleats away and buy a new pair!
Day one of early signing showed this rebuild will take some time. I hope we are as patient as Riley is. I was looking for a couple of O line players, yet none came. The portal is going to be tougher now, everyone is using it.
The hardest position to evaluate is OLine. The guys who have developed into genuine power 5 starters who enter the portal will be like gold. Coaches know they can come in and play right now. I know Riley had Haskins on campus, hopefully he will come. He’s a plug and play tackle.
12 of the top 50 high school athletes remain unsigned, SC should get 2 of them for a total of 4. There are only 6 O Linemen in the top 50 and SC should get one, Devon Banks. You are right the portal will be hot competition. I wonder what is going on behind the scenes. Technically, a player can’t be offer an NIL deal till they commit but what is happening through back channels. Riley is doing great for 2 weeks on the job. Hopefully, he and SC can work this new system and stay out of trouble. Miami… Read more »
Miami and violations go together like hot and dog.
Seems to me these star high school kids are pulling back from signing day and picking a day when they can personally own the headline and not be lost among all the other signing day headlines.
