USC vs Baylor in the Alamo?

USC MVP Michael Pittman Jr.

Stewart Mandel (The Athletic):

USC finished its regular season 8-4 overall and 7-2 in the Pac-12. Should both Utah and Oregon land New Year’s Six bowls, the Trojans would be locked into the Alamo Bowl by virtue of finishing two games higher in the conference standings than every other eligible team.

Dec. 31 | Alamo | San Antonio
Baylor (Big 12 No. 2) vs. USC (Pac-12 No. 2)

This game, if played, will last 5-hours. Think of all the commercials that will be put in.

I am under the belief that no announcement until Sunday(at the earliest) is good news, because if Bohn was intent on keeping Clay, why not announce that publicly now? I am hearing the same rumors that the buy out drops some after Dec. 1st, and it only makes sense to wait until Utah makes it official.
Needless to say, I will extremely disappointed if he don’t have a new head coach next year.

SC v Baylor?– And after the game the Trojans steal the Bears’ Coach Rhule away for themselves. Better yet, do it before the game starts.

Great turn of events if that happened. Not sure he’s the guy. But great how things happen.

If, there is no Meyer for us, then Rhule would be my first choice.
He brought life back to Baylor after the Briles debacle.
Baylor is a Big12 football power. Matt Rhule is a defense minded coach, much like Carroll and Orgeron. He’s paid well, but Waco ain’t LA.
We’ll see how things shake out. There is currently not one coach in the PAC12 that has accomplished or equals what he has at Baylor.

I keep asking myself just how much did injuries really hurt USC this season. It seems the next guys up did a pretty good job of filling in and in some cases outpaced the starters. I think RB was the biggest hit depth wise. What do you other folks think.

On Arledge’s column, I emailed Mike Bohn and referred him to it. I then voted again for Helton’s removal and replacement with a championship capable coach. Finally, I warned him of the consequences of leaving Clay in place for 2020

My take-away from the Chris Arledge article, and who says lawyers can’t write, was his philosophical discussion about Pessimists vs Optimists. “Pessimists have to overcome a tendency to bring everybody down, that they instill a culture of hopelessness” he writes… ” By contrast, Optimists always have something uplifting to say, and there is something endearing about a born optimist. But optimists’ attitude that ‘everything will turn out okay’ is not a plan. Optimists have to avoid complacency and the tendency to allow happy thoughts to replace true nose-to-the-grindstone preparation.” Optimists and complacency– I never thought it that way… Don’t you… Read more »

I find it hard to believe that Bohn is sitting in his office right now sweeping specks of dust off of his desk and waiting for the outcome of the Utah/CO game. He knows he has to let Clay go, so this is about timing and the next era. Until, publicly, Urban Meyer closes the door on coming to USC, that has to be Plan A. We need to put a vault full of money in Heritage Hall, and give UM the combo. Then say, “any time you need some of that, you just go in there and get what… Read more »

Wow, that’s a great point. If they actually were to planning to keep Helton then it would make sense that they would have made a public announcement already.

That is a good landing spot for Clay Helton, the Mountain West. Any of those schools would love to have him.
