When Clay Helton see’s newspaper’s this morning it might be time for him to start thinking of some mental excuse he’s been dealing with for over a year (something like that) and announce he’s stepping down to save whatever he has left from the ones who actually think high of him as a coach because this class will be felt later with L’s.

He’s really into denial about everything. Has nothing to say except one side of the coin even though he obviously ignores the shear weight of evidence to the contrary. It’s really pathetic and embarrassing to a great heritage. I’ve never seen this kind of behavior in our program dating all the way back to ’66.

Well said.
He keeps hanging onto that the glass is half full way of looking at things when it’s clearly more serious than he realizes it is.

Helton is officially in loser denial. He said Bru McCoy loved his teammates at SC after only a few weeks. Absolutely mind boggling.

I feel bad for Clay because in a way Swann can only be golfing and ignoring what’s going on if he’s guarenteed his place at USC is safe for years to come so he is telling Clay what he what he wants to hear at the moment when he should be crawling up his @$$ every step of the way. The one person who should be keeping Helton in check is allowing him to run wild. He’ll say anything.

We really won’t know how good this recruiting class pans out till the players get to the field. How many classes with 4-5 star recruits have we had where the players fell flat?

Now it’s on Helton to coach and show he is able to prove himself. Otherwise we’ll have a different coach next year.

Allen, can we get a summary of results by stars and position and your assessment of overall. Thanks.

Today’s recruits will be sophomores in 2020 when we line up against Alabama. Assuming no one transfers from either school, USC will potentially field three 4 star O linemen, and zero D linemen. Alabama will potentially field four 5 and 4 star O linemen, and three 4 and 4 star D linemen. That’s seven 5 and 4 star D linemen for Alabama, and three 4 star linemen for SC. Anyone looking forward to that?

I may be the very unpopular opinion but after watching these signees talk about why they chose SC and seeing their film I’m actually extremely excited to see what they can do Otey sounds like he’s doing the full time at SC due to his family pushing SC onto him because of how academically prestigious they are. This is all I wanted to see were kids coming to SC to play and this class looks the part thank god for Burns coming in and showing why he’s around for so many years and salvaging our secondary. One complaint for today… Read more »

Perhaps Helton will now take a look at the portal and see what is left.

I haven’t checked my phone all day. I just got home and watched some of the Pac12 Networks Signing Day Special.
All i can say is this a dissapointment even though I knew it was coming.
Today could could mean significant consequences down the road and this was a sad day.
2-Star DB’s at USC.

To all the kids who are Trojans today Congratulations and Fight On!

As far as the O line…..nobody wants to play for Helton. We lose recruits to Utah St. If you agree that great O line play is one of the main determinants of successful teams this class can only be measured as pitiful. Last year was just as bad.
So much for winning the pac 12.

247Sports has USC at #17. Not a horrible ranking, but far from the top 10 where they belong. Hopefully this year is an aberration and next years class will have fewer 3 * and more 4* & 5*. If the team performs better than projected and the program is seen to be stabilizing I would expect recruiting results to improve. If the on field results are not good, I think that CH will be gone. And if he is gone a positive buzz will return & the new coach can have a positive impact right off the bat. This years… Read more »

The one positive we could all look forward to was NSD and USC getting its accustomed share of top recruits. I am seeing too many Cali kids signing elsewhere. This is a hurtfull breakdown in the USC brand. Where are the top recruits who grew up wanting to be a trojan?

Losing the Kid from Lawndale will haunt us. But this class looks to be a better than expected haul. Is it the USC Brand doing the work or is there actual recruiting happening? I wonder.
If you listen to the inside guy and the ol’ P they would find the negative in a ray of sunshine.
Personally I enjoy the sunshine.

Fight On!

Now the 6 month wait for the Season…

Now is the time USC loves to serve up the kool aid. Not this year, not drinking any.

I get it. Your position is valid. I have no fantasy of a Clay Helton led squad with the ability to punch people in the mouth. The whole thing over at USC not just football, leadership at the highest levels needs a re boot. Until the administration there changes course I cant see the football team competing nationally. There is 0 political will. I am happy for the young men getting full rides to a major university. I pray they take full advantage of it. The days of Julie’s Trojan Barrel have long since past and gone, It’s time for… Read more »

A class dominated by 3 stars and didn’t take care of the remaining need of OL a good class? Wow your expectations are low for SC.

What’s wrong with a 3 star? Seems we went 5-7 with a ton of 4 and 5 stars. Perhaps the 3 stars will work harder.

Utah and Cal did a pretty good job sticking it to us with their 3-stars and worse. The erroneous decision to retain Clay when it is obvious he is not right for the job has so many ramifications and threatens to damage this program for 4 or 5 years — even if you fire him just a year late next year. Utah and Cal beat us by out-coaching us and just letting us implode on our side of the field from mistakes, poor effort, and disorganization. Now we’re risking even greater harm by combining most of the coaches that let… Read more »

Hope we get Nacua and some OL’s and DL’s to shore up the depth on those two fronts.

Just read that nacua won’t make his decision today. Im afraid this might be bad news and he is really contemplating going elsewhere! Happy we got Ford but really hoping for nacua. His uncle lives in Vegas and coaches my son, I’ve been so tempted to text him for the inside scoop if he even has one! Hoping for more good news today!!!

I am not totally upset with this class. We missed on a few kids, but the new staff really put in work, especially Burns. That guy had some ground to make up and must have worked his tail off to get us some depth. I fully admit that I have no idea what the difference is between a 3 or 4 star kid is.

This is also the day before the first birthday celebration of the Trojan Daily Blog. Congratulations John Weld and Allen Wallace for this important and ongoing venture. Many happy returns! Fight on!

There is a big difference between this blog and others “inside USC”. The people responsible for the content take responsibility for the content. On other boards I have felt like a nobody from day one. I don’t think I ever got a response from the moderator directly in the form of an answer or even agreement on other blogs. Here I have several answers, challenges and agreements. It’s not that I am important, I love to spout off, but at least I know I have a chance to be heard. The last time I felt this way was with a… Read more »

OTND–spouting off is one of the joys of life! And when you hit 60, you no longer have a filter to what you say. It’s great fun, really….

I have really enjoyed the last year on here, the people are honest, intelligent, and are not into tearing down other people on here. Great job Allen and John, you are appreciated.

Absolutely agree. I have seen no one attacked since I have been here. Other boards have what I call “Board Bullies” who are allowed to brow beat anyone who disagrees with them. Posters here seem to be more thoughtful and offer interesting observations. Considering the state of the USC football program, that is quite remarkable because when you are frustrated sometimes that leads to outburst you wished you could take back. So given that context, John/Allen thanks for creating such an open and polite atmosphere.
