USC Trojans This & That — Easter Sunday

John Jackson III, with his arm around his father, John Jackson, Jr, who is recovering from a very serious stroke, and hopes to see his son run out of the Coliseum tunnel this season against FRESNO ST.

“When I first came out of this and I couldn’t move, I said, ‘I don’t care what happens. I will be at the Coliseum to watch him run out of the tunnel,’ ” John Jr. says. “Half the time when I’m working out, that’s all I think about. It makes it a lot easier to get up for workouts at 7:30 in the morning, because it’s the only way I’m going to be able to get to that Coliseum for Game 1.”

I was working at our outreach yesterday, which included an Easter Egg hunt. Afterward there was another church setting up a service. We had a lot of eggs left over, so our pastor went over and gave them the eggs. A few minutes later the leader of the other group came over and gave them back explaining that they didn’t believe in Easter eggs. I was shocked what did they not believe in? No charity ? No candy? Our pastor said, “okay”. Today before the message our pastor explained the history of Easter Eggs. So I can only say it’s… Read more »

We all want to be nice to Clay as a good guy. But being a nice guy alone isn’t what USC football needs to maintain its accustomed place among the elite college football programs. If Clay would only get nasty around his players and not be a favorite Uncle when they don’t perform to their potential, then we might see some championship football around here.

Based on what we heard coming out of spring camp. Clay actually was getting tough with the players. He was getting on them for mistakes and making everyone do ups and downs when the team made a dumb mistake. Let’s see if that continues in the fall and during the season. I really do want to see Clay succeed as our coach and get us back to being a consistent national power.

USC might get back to competing for national championships. But it won’t happen with Clay Helton & Lynn Swann running the show.

Good luck John Jr.—nothing like a goal to keep you motivated when it seems like an insurmountable hill in front of you. Fight On!
