USC Trojans This & That — 9/12

Rector Not Practicing

LAT  —  DE Christian Rector did not participate in practice for the second consecutive day. His status for BYU remains uncertain.

According to Clay Helton, Rector injured his ankle late against STAN. On his Sunday conference call, Helton suggested that none of the injuries suffered by players against the Cardinal were serious.

As far as Rector not practicing, I hope this approach works. I looked into the idea of riding the stationary bike for ankle injuries and it seems to be an accepted practice. It keeps the legs active without putting stress on the injury. It also keeps the joint from getting too stiff. I am not a Doctor but it sounds like good practice I am a huge fan (as opposed to a doctor) and know we need Rector in the game, so I hope he is able to go Saturday. Weather is supposed to be in the mid to high… Read more »

Responding to the Notre Dame stories, I have been there 3 times and have yet to see an SC win. I almost always buy scalper tickets at the game, and I was close to tears at the Marinovich game when it looked as if I would be shut out, but at the last minute some ND guy had an extra ticket on the 30 yard line and only charged me face-value. We had a great time together, especially him, as ol’ Todd could not quite bring home the victory….Walking through the campus behind the Notre Dame band as it plays… Read more »

When someone enters the “portal” during the season how does that affect this years elgibility? I know they can redshirt for this year but is there any other cost to entering so late? In my opinion it is a totally dumb decision. He gains nothing essentially, because next season he would probably be starting or at least playing a lot. With no willingness to fight for a position, who needs him.

It is a dumb decision. It lets Pro scouts know that they are not team players. I only think its good for graduate transfer QBs who know they won’t play pro ball, but want to get some last college games in before they are done with the sport.

It is a sad to see as bad a decision as D. Williams made. It is beyond bad. First, Clay CANNOT take him back – he quit the team during the season to advance his own agenda – the equivalent of desertion. Devon is done a Trojan absent factual circumstances that mitigate what was done (I cannot imagine there are any, but that does not mean that they do not exist). This is drastically different than entering the portal during the off season.. Second, he has now alienated the Trojan Family. One of the reasons to come to SC is… Read more »

Some of the most fun I ever had in sports was following the great Carroll teams around in 2003-2006, and going to cocky sites such as Nebraska, Oregon, Auburn and Ohio St. Their fans would be whooping it up before the game, but SC would shatter their spirit in short order. I would love to get on a plane to BYU to experience that thrill again. Just might do it.

You should go! I’ll never regret going to South Bend twice in my lifetime. The first time I went through USC Travel and got their full package deal with a buddy of mine. We got to ride on the airplane with the Song Girls (I had just graduated with an MBA earlier that year-1979). Drinks were flowing freely and they had drinks on the rooter bus that went from Chicago to South Bend on gameday. That year we had Charles White, Paul McDonald and a host of other great players. We crushed ND that day and the trip back to… Read more »

I’ve been to South Bend twice, the first was either 1993 or 1995 (I knew the game was lost at the coin toss, when the USC Team Captains were wearing rain coats and the ND players were in their regular uniforms). The second game was in 2007 which was a perfect day for football (75* and clear) where USC shutout the Irish 38-0 in a sweet sweet victory (USC’s largest margin of victory in the series)!!!

Those times were the best. I remember tailgating at the Coliseum vs Ohio St. USC won 35-3. I had so much fun hanging out and talking with the Ohio St. fans. 99% of them were very kind and knowledgeable about college football. We both agreed that we hate our in-conference rivals more. They hated Wisconsin and Penn St. the most lol

You should, I was at the last one there and it was a great time. Some BYU fans by the visitors section were talking big before the game.
