USC Trojans This & That — 8/15

Do you agree with Colin Cowherd here? He says, “If you go look at the history of dynasties in this country, generally you need what I would call a ‘local break’. Now, when Pete Carroll was dominating college football, the Pac-12 was atrocious. He had like seven lay-down games a year. He could rest starters. They were healthy at the end of the year.”

Yes Colin is typically a jack@$$ but he does make somewhat of a point. In 2005, there were 5-6 games where we put up a 30 point plus lead on teams and were able to coast through the 2nd half. This doesn’t take away from how dominant and great Pete and the program was. We were able to compete and dominate on a national level. SC was feared by all. I think the only point Colin is trying to make is that it’s going to be harder today to get back to that dominance than 15 years ago. Personally I… Read more »

There is a lot more parity in the Pac 12 only because there are 3-4 teams that are slightly good, the rest are mediocre. A coach at SC that could generate the buzz Pete did would quickly dominate this conference.

Hey Golden, I think that can be said for every conference, even the SEC. A few good teams and the rest are mediocre.

Colin Cowherd is jacka$$. He loves to make claims after the fact and pretend he knew it all along. He also likes to make fun of men who were sports jerseys with names of other men on it yet his entire career is based upon talking about the achievements of other men (and often criticizing them). He holds himself in such high regard, I can’t take him seriously.

Like any generality, it depends. But when Pete and SC were hot, they were killing everybody, in and out of conference. How was the Pac 12 out of conference back then? Pete had a tough time winning in the state of Oregon, no matter which school they played up there. What makes the Patriots always good, what makes Alabama always good. When Belichek, Brady and Saban retire their dynasties will end. Colin has too much air time to fill. I don’t remember SC resting guys, well maybe in the 4th with the game locked away.

USC never rested guys. Colin is clueless.
