USC Trojans This & That — 6/7

Five-Star California CB Chris Steele, who expects to be eligible at USC this fall, turned his back on the Florida Gators after they inexplicably fumbled his request to be moved to a different dorm room and away from freshman QB Jalon Jones, who had been accused of sexual battery twice within a 30-minute span on April 6. Steele entered the transfer portal on May 9. Before then, the highest rated player in the Gators’ incoming class had made a good impression in Gainesville, and had worked with the first-team defense all spring because of injuries.

“I got to give it up to Chris Steele,” Florida receiver Trevon Grimes said during the spring. “He comes out here, he competes with me every day; he calls me out. Just today he had a pretty nice hit on me, he knocked the ball out. He’s going to be great, and props to him.”

Regarding Chris Steele leaving Florida Gators….I am proud of him for taking a stand regarding his roommate who was accused of sexual battery…he didn’t want to be “clumped” into that bunch, and he seems like an upstanding young man. It is too bad that the Gators staff didn’t take his request to change rooms seriously as this got the “ball” rolling in my opinion for Steele to look elsewhere, and ultimately came back to USC and his home CA turf… I have been to The Swamp, the Florida Gators stadium, and we all got to watch their football practice which… Read more »

Not only that — it shows that Steele has good judgment. Too often sports stars get taken down by those around them (you lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas). These days, a young man with a future like his just needs to stay as far away from that kind of trouble as he can. Smart move and bodes well for his judgment going forward.

There will be a new name for the field at the Coliseum in August. It will be United Airlines Field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

I am thrilled Chris has reconsidered USC as his home. I remember very plainly the reason he stated he signed elsewhere was because he felt the players here were not developing as they should. Well maybe with Greg Burns now the position coach this will change. Steele definitely has the talent and the will to compete!

Like the 7:30pm games, I will not attend 09:00 am games.

I just read the SCNG article suggesting the PAC 12 conference schedule 9:00am games to get coverage in the Eastern time zones. My first thought is I like sleeping in on Saturday, but it IS USC football. The tailgating would be weird. The last time I mentioned the East coast most of the reply I got was “who cares about them?”
Still I wonder, would anyone be interested in football at 9:00 in the morning on a Saturday?

When I was at USC almost all of our home games were at 12:30 except for one game that was at 5:00 PM. Having a game at 9:00 am makes no sense at all. Another reason Larry Scott needs to go if this happens.

Put a great product on the field, and we’ll get all the Eastern/SE/MW exposure we want…..PC wasn’t hurting for exposure.

Bacon, eggs, pancakes and juice…..what a cookout. Larry marches on……what’s next……a red field with gold trim.

What about the players wearing tennis outfits with pads on?

Exactly…. they will watch us throughout the Country like they did in the 60s-early 70s when LA was a major player in CFB. Of course, this is too complicated for 12-University presidents and one lame commsioner to figure out.
