Ranks Amon-Ra St. Brown as USC’s best WR
10. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Southern California (So.)
“This is based primarily on promise, even if Brown met his five-star expectations during the Trojans’ dreadful 2018 season. Look for Brown to mesh with Graham Harrell’s new offensive scheme and continue building a rapport with quarterback JT Daniels as he challenges for the top spot in the Pac-12 in all meaningful receiving categories.”
Strangely, USA Today’s Paul Myerberg ranks St. Brown as the nation’s 10th best WR prospect, while leaving off 6-4, 225 pound SR Michael Pittman, Jr, the Trojan who was generally regarded as the best receiving threat last season (perfectly described as “dreadful” by Myerberg).
Pittman had 41 rec for 758 yds (18.5 ypc) and six TDs. Brown would probably be better described as “up-and-coming” or a “breakout candidate” — see Street & Smith’s PreSeason mag. And with SR Tyler Vaughns also coming back off 58 rec/674 yds/6 TDs, the Trojans could make a strong case for having the nation’s best receiving corp, period. Expect absolutely huge things from the threesome under Graham Harrell’s “find green grass” offense.
It’s also interesting that Daniels always gets the immediate nod from the national media as the probable starter at QB for the Trojans. There’s lots of local speculation that Jack Sears might deserve the job, but that possibility never seems to play out outside the borders of L.A. Let’s face it. No one thinks Sears will start over Daniels, because everyone thinks Clay Helton prefers Daniels.
