USC Trojans This & That — 6/16

LMU, where USC found Jason Gill, and USC have worked together before on the college baseball coach merry-go-round.
You may have forgotten that before Dan Hubbs took over the USC job seven years ago, the Trojan coach was Frank Cruz, who had also been the head coach at LMU for 12 years from ’97-08 (329-356-3).
Cruz was also replaced at LMU by Gill, who was assuming his first job in college baseball as a head coach. Cruz then became an asst under Chad Kreuter before moving into the head role when Kreuter got the ax after the 2010 season.
Things didn’t work out so well for Cruz with the Trojans. He had a 48-63 record over two seasons before Pat Haden fired him as part of a self-imposed sanctions move for a relatively minor NCAA rules infraction.
