I really enjoyed Gerard Martinez’s take on Ryan’s board. Dan Weber was out of state, so Gerard did the commentary. One comment I loved was right out of Allen. Clay praised the OL play at practice; Gerard said, in essence, “I have no idea what practice he was watching.” Allen says he (as I think all of us do) ignores anything Clay says. I do not make any additional comment to what should be obvious. I also liked that Gerard said that Saturday’s practice was the best he has attended in years. I think the O Line needs to get beat up all summer and fall camp by the DLine. Let them get used to playing physical on every snap. There are enough bodies to do this, yesterday’s practice should be the norm.

I have read and heard that Clancy would rather be coaching in the NFL and I wonder a couple of things. First, who would have him? Clearly he’s not in demand or he’d field offers. And second, most NFL teams are like all-star clubs. They are really an entertainment group and I’ll stop short of calling them professional wrestling in pads, but mostly one trick ponies. Neither is going anywhere. This is Clancy’s last hurrah as a DC – he was a LB coach at his lost time in the NFL. I have not seen The issue is can they be effective at USC in 2019.
