USC Trojans This & That — 3/13

William Rick Singer, the alleged mastermind who has already pled guilty as the architect of the massive nationwide college admission scandal, leaves Federal Court in Boston, Mass, on March 12.

USC’s incredible 16-time national championship water polo coach Jovan Vavic has also already been arrested, as well as fired from his USC position due to his apparent participation.

Swannie just called in. Wants to know if this is a good time to announce his 5 year contract extension with a 20 million dollar buyout.

Well gang, its gets worst. Lori Laughlin’s daughter was on Rick Caruso’s yacht in the Bahamas when all this news broke. She was partying with Rick’s kids. TMZ broke the news story.

I just read a comment on FB that sums up the issues at USC perfectly. I’m paraphrasing “when leadership focuses on being more politically correct (“PC”), mediocrity is what you get in return.”

SC was not the victim here. The very fact Wanda submitted a statement claiming the University is the victim shows the pathetic leadership skills Wanda has and that she doesn’t mental fortitude to run this University. This also shows that our AD has absolutely no control of the Athletics program. Both should be fired immediately before the fallout continues.

The “ victim” statement by Wanda was Freudian. That is how she thinks and views the world – victims and those who victimize. If she gets the Presidency- SC is in huge problems. SC is not a victim, exCelt of its own doing. Hopefully, this incident and her response to it will end any chance for her getting the job.

All will be forgiven by Trojan fans if the football team makes a startling comeback.

It will help but doesn’t remove the negative publicity brought to the school. It may help us to get a new President.

The whole thing is unfortunate and disgusting — especially for the kids that deserved to be Trojans but lost that opportunity. The timing is perfect though, if it had to happen. Now we have the perfect excuse to get Swanny out without yet another football scandal or sanctions and hopefully have a competent AD in place to hire Helton’s replacement the right way if the makeover falls flat this season.

One factor struck me. The attitude, temptations, lack of respect of these minor sport coaches to give in to the money. The failure of the Athletic Departments to properly support them and not just monetarily. Jovan Vavic, 16 times National Champ making 10% of what the failed Football coach is making. Vavic has no excuses. But, would a competent AD managed these folks in a better environment to minimize the temptation. Fascinating what a lack of proper leadership and management will do to destroy an organization.

Some people want a job just for its title (look at me!) and have no experience in doing that job. CH-learning on the job, LS-learning on the job, interim University president-learning on the job, BOT chairman-learning on the job. Very consistent I’d say?

It is sad when your favorite school is front page news and not for a good thing. At a private school there is no need for this type of thing they can admit anyone they want.
But real loss is esteem. The university of soiled cheaters has earned its name.

It appears the chant frequently heard by our UCLA detractors is actually true “U-S-C….Buy a Degree” If as you state ‘Old Trojan’ on the front page of the Local Press it would be one thing, however, this scurrilous fiasco has manage to be Front Page Faire on the Daily Mail in London and other European and Asia major cities. So who on the BOT is looking after the “Brand”? As the Mandel article clearly points out the Athletic Programs get potential new student and fan interest in the school, and ours has failed miserably for the last several years…..and now… Read more »

Alfa, UCLA coaches are also included in the scandal. All colleges and universities admit athletes under a separate admissions policies, particularly in the minor sports. The problem is SC is an ongoing soap opera and a national brand. Also all colleges and universities admit kids of the extremely wealthy or famous. For example, Obama’s kids were guaranteed admits to Harvard or Yale or Stanford. I think having Lynn Swann as our AD and Clay as our football HC really hurts. Both are clearly incompetent and I think Mandell got it right – comically so.

Yes, RJJ I’m aware that similar irregularities take place at other noted Universities, however, not with the apparent regularity that occurs at SC. As a side note, non of the others mentioned in this latest episode have had a upper level administrator involved, that in itself sets us apart.

Doesn’t this mess make you long for the days where all we had to cry about was the lack of leadership on the football field 😜?

It starts with the BoT, who for some reason cannot accomplish anything. Then it goes downhill from there. Mandel has it right. Being an elite does not mean you give up integrity.

Strangely silent from Rick Caruso, the esteemed president of the BoT who patted himself on the back for getting rid of the evil Dean Ellis (sarcasm) for the sake of the culture correction. Dean Ellis is probably happy to have been disassociated from this mess. I can only hope that this news will force the BoT to quit en masse so we can start over.

Caruso is a political animal. An elite pandering to same who has political ambition. He wants to be mayor of LA. He kisses all the elite progressive asses and spouts their BS. Dean Ellis is a perfect example as is that jerk Wanda Austin who actually said USC was a victim in this scam. What a bullshit spin that is. She should be thrown out today.

Nikias appointed donors to the BOT based on their contribution. Not whether they had any talent administratively or whether they gave a shit about USC. Pay up and join up. How can a board of 80 people be manageable? Ever see any Fortune 500 companies with an 80 man board? There are people on the board that I know that have absolutley no business being there. No business at all. It is all inexcusable. You reap what you sow, and Nikias sowed pandering to wealthy donors who did not give a damn about USC. All Nikias cared about was $.… Read more »

USC’s original charter was for 50 board members, later increased to 53, of which only 50 are allowed vote. That may have changed again with the increased donations. This administration is starting to reek of the “Tammany Hall Machine”
Sample started this corporate corruption by handing the Baton to Max Nikias, Sample had to have known Nikias’ lack of character, it’s only festered from there. Lopes is right in the middle of this whole mess as well.
