USC Trojans This & That — 2/14

USC finishes in disastrous fashion against STAN in Palo Alto and drops to 13-12 (6-6).

“Our biggest takeaway from this game (79-76 loss) is that our upper classmen have to be able to finish games in the last minute, and they have to do a better job, point blank,” said Andy Enfield. “It was a good game. Both teams played hard, played well, and it came down to the end, and we could not finish. Very simple.”

I wonder sometimes of the Helton hire by Nikias as his way of de-emphasizing the football program into a less successful and as a result less popular part of the University? He had to know Helton had zero experience in managing a top 10 program. The program was in dire need of a solid well experienced HC who would turn the disarray of Sarkisian’s uncontrolled actions during the end of the sanctions. Such a critical time to say the least. Hiring a babysitter for a HC at this time just gives me the impression it was done on purpose with… Read more »

At this point I am willing to entertain any conspiracy theory.

I wish the football team would incorporate that Greek trim from the basketball uni’s to the football uni’s. Like on the pants and shoulder pads. I think that would excite this generation of players.

Old Trojan, what we are seeing with the basketball team, the football team, Dean Ellis, the interim Prez and the BOT, etc. is the overarching tentacles of the silent coup of USC, its traditions, and it’s Trojan Family by Nakias and his coterie. We are seeing Orwell’s “Animal Farm” being implemented right before our eyes. The details of the coaching, recruiting, scandals, etc are superfluous to the main show. As Trojans we should have remembered the old admonition, “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.” before Nakias was given the keys to the Bentley

You are absolutely correct! So now the BOT chair is Caruso, who has ambitions of running for LA Mayor. But in a city like LA that won’t get far unless you have some kind of liberal support! So I’m hearing that he’s set out to change USC into a more liberal progressive place using the scandals as the case for action. Wanda Austin, an Obama supporter, has been installed as acting President and is the one who is carrying the water on the Dean Ellis debacle which is being vigorously opposed by the Business Schools Board of Leaders and several… Read more »

Wanda Austin can “attempt” to make any moves she wishes. However, the combined faculty at USC has the ultimate power and if they take a vote of non-confidence towards her, the BOTs would have no choice but to send her flying out the door, Obama or no Obama.

don’t agree. The BOT are the movers and shakers; business leaders and billionaires that are world renown. Austin and Caruso’s controversial move on Dean Ellis has fomented a showdown on the Board. We’ll have to see if Rosky and Gold as former board chairs, can knit majority coalitions. The other force that plays a role in SC politics is the Alumni and they are a wild card. however, the public display of the rancor in the Board and how Caruso has fumbled the leadership certainly would not play well with them.

Wow football, basketball it’s all the same. I wonder if the coaches had to take a class in double-speak. We were right there but didn’t finish well. Both teams fought hard out takeaway was we didn’t win.

My money bets USC hires from within for S&C coach. Right now it is almost to late to start someone new and get a program set up.

Does Western Kentucky have a S & C coach that we could hire?

That is just like from within isn’t it?

There is no excuse for the delay in hiring a S&C coach. The players on campus right now are supposed to be working on their training regimens. This is all just more wasted time.

I’m not really sure what is taking so long to find someone. It’s been almost a month and half since we lost our S&C guy to Seattle.
