In Maui for our anniversary and had lunch next to a UW grad – I was wearing my SC baseball hat. He and I had a great discussion on football. He was thrilled with Chris Peterson. I explained that most SC alums saw Clay Helton as our Ty Willingham. He said to UW alums referred to Ty as “he who is never to be named.” I laughed and said we now had two of those at SC – our current HC and our current AD.

Seems we all agree Helton needs to be replaced or entirely change his coaching philosophy. Then we get all excited when KK comes aboard, breaks our hearts, then Harrell comes in to save the offense. So now we are looking at a strong possibility of a winning season, which means Helton returns for 2020. This may take a decade to get USC, along with its leadership back to something we can all get behind. Fun!!

I’m kind of hoping USC stumbles early so that Helton gets fired mid-season and Harrell takes over as interim HC. Then the team plays inspired football to win out the season! It’s a dark wish, but I don’t see any other (positive) scenario playing out.

It hurts to even think about it could happen….. And some of our friends who know we love USC football are laughing their heads off at us.

Look at Eddie O and LSU. Eddie O wouldn’t know an X and O scheme if it hit him in the forehead. He was never that kind of guy — he’s a head-knocker and a motivator. He stirs the soul, not the mind of a football player. He learned from the Ole Miss disaster to get out of the way and let his coordinators worry about the schemes. So, after that, what was his role? Game management, discipline, holding his staff accountable. This is the stuff Clay says he will now focus on with Harrell taking over our offensive schemes,… Read more »

It is the dog days of winter as far as meaningful sports goes. No football, the new signings have been completed, so not much there….You can have pro basketball and hockey…Baseball has 162 meaningless games.,, And the SC basketball team is not going to the NCAAs unless it wins the P-12 Tournament, which is highly unlikely. Oh well, I’ll just wait until September for the first kickoff.

Allen I have a comment and a question. First, sad to hear Jake Olsen is leaving. He is a great example of what Fight On means, and an encouragement to us all. Second, is it true we signed two 2 Stars in this class? If so how many years has it been since we have done that?
