It sure seems that so little comes out of USC they want to keep everything a secret. Not a great way to energize the fan base, or what’s left of it.

I am at a loss. As an USC fan and alum from the days Mike Garret ran the pig skin for the legend Coach McKay, I find it incomprehensible, inexplicable and outrageous that Helton would, after being informed that KK was leaving after a month as OC to be a coach in the NFL, praise KK’s decision to fork over 160,000 buy out $$ and then get out of dodge! So much for the fans and players’ hopes and aspirations for a better offensive football team in ’19. Helton sure ain’t going to deliver. Clay: The better job is not… Read more »

Helton is limited in his mental capacity.

In Helton’s overwhelming desire to be a nice guy (think–Pat Boone in football cleats and a whistle), the resulting softness curdles his mental acuity. That is my diagnosis. You’re welcome everybody. wink

Unfortunately this is not a joke. IMO he is also someone who knows his limitations and does not care that he is taking the program down due to his lack of mental capacity. Taking the cash and conning us every day.

He played for Mike Leach at Texas Tech and knows the “Air Raid” well. He was also on Leach’s staff for a couple of years at Wash St.

Should they go after Zach Taylor, (Rams QB coach)?

Bubba Bolden is transferring to Miami, joining good friend and former Bishop Gorman teammate, Brevin Jordan. Also, Tate Martell is leaving Ohio St., new team has yet to be determined

Wow, does that surprise anyone? Martell moving on…again.

IMO, Lynn Swann has made four major mistakes in the last year regarding the SC football program: MISTAKE #1. Granting Helton an extension prior to seeing how Helton could coach without Sam Darnold. An experienced AD would have seen what happened at UCLA twice, when Toledo lost McNown and when Mora lost Hundley and what happened at Louisville when Petrino lost Lamar Jackson. All the warning signs were there Sam’s last season. Educated fans saw the problems in the O scheme, the OL and the play calling Sam’s last year. Swann ignored these and signed Helton to an extension anyway.… Read more »

I can’t think of a luckier man who came into a position knowing little of how it works. He makes questionable decisions and evades himself when they don’t work like the politician he is and he has no one looking over his shoulder getting away with it. Unless something highly unusual happens, Swann will let Helton make the next hire, to cover his own hide, who will wind up hiring an OC from a lesser program who will work for Helton. Anyone think a successful OC from a good program would come work for Helton in the mess he has… Read more »

Do you think a top OC might take the job, believing they could be the next HC.? Seeing how weak the staff on D side, and HC incompetence.

Petero, a competent OC with HC aspirations would come IF he thought he could be the next HC. Given SC’s history of firing coaches in the season (last two went that way), what is Lynn going to do if the 2019 Trojans open up 1-5 or 0-6 (and that could happen)?

I will give a detailed comment above but I doubt Swann lasts through 2019. He only makes it past 2019 if one of two things happen: (a) SC hires a “social justice” President who wishes to solidify the change of USC Culture away from Football and make SC more like Stanford regarding Football ( expectations are for at least .500 and the Cheez-it Bowl is just fine), OR (b) Clay Helton actually succeeds in 2019. I think the chances of (b) are under 10%.

I should add a third possibility, that Swann NOW changes his mind and cleans house. I would put the odds of that occurring at the same level as Helton succeeding next year.

Now that Bubba is gone lets hope they snag a safety or two that can play.

How about Mike McCarthy? It seems like the NFL (Not For Long) paying not mind to a coach who has a proven record with a Super Bowl win -I just don’t get the NFL! I think AD Swann needs to give the former Pittsburg Steelers product a call as he is sitting out the 2019 Season. JMHO!

McCarthy is not coaching this year. At least that is what was reported by many sources. They said he only wants a HC NFL job and no team will offer him a job this year.

So who is going to be the OC now! CH has proven he cannot handle that job and HC!

I just read an article by a paid writer saying about the same things the fan base has said this week. Basically as bad as losing KK is a good thing. This because having KK on staff just kicks the Helton problem down the road for a year at best.
