Here are a couple of unrelated, intriguing tidbits to get you started for this week:

1) Chimezie Metu (projected as late first or second-round pick) and De’Anthony Melton (possible first-round pick) showed up at the 2018 NBA Draft Combine over the weekend in Chicago.

Metu’s measurements: 6-8.5, 219.5, wingspan  —  7-0.5. He drilled the NBA Top Key shooting drill, hitting 100% from that spot, one of just three players to do so.

Melton: 6-2.25, 193.2, wingspan  —  6-8.5, impressive for a guard. Looked strong on defense (where USC missed him so badly), once forcing an eight-second scrimmage violation.

The 2018 NBA Draft takes place on Thursday, June 21 at the Barclay Center in New York.

2) Stillwater, Okla. (Karsten Creek Gold Club)  —  USC women’s golf has moved forward in 2018 NCAA Championship competition, finishing fifth on Sunday to make the final 15-team cut allowing them to move into the fourth round.

The Trojans now hope for a top-eight finish today to move onto their fourth straight NCAA match play quarterfinals on Tuesday morning.

USC began the final round at 21-over 895 (291-298-296), 20 behind first-place Alabama and nine ahead of ninth-place Florida State.

The Trojans have already teed off earlier today with fourth-place Northwestern and sixth-place Duke. Live television coverage will begin at 3 p.m. CT/1 p.m. PT on Golf Channel.

Update: USC obliterated the field today and shot a fantastic 5-under par (283) to finish third behind Alabama and UCLA, who are still playing for number 1, before moving on to match play tomorrow.
