I have tremendous respect for Clay Helton, and would love for him to coach my son. That being said, I have serious doubts about his ability to lead this program to sustained greatness. This year is the acid test, since Darnold is not around to bail him out. Hoping my gut us wrong, but I can’t help but feel he is exposed this year as a marginal coach, trying to manage great talent.

SC’s ranking makes little sense given the rankings of Stanford, UW, Texas and ND. As all 4 are ranked higher than SC, I assume all 4 will beat SC. I know SC does not play UW in the regular season, but under this ranking, SC wins the South and then loses to UW in the championship game. I doubt a four loss SC team is ranked at all. This ranking evidences what I have been asserting all along. This season sets up GREAT for a Final 4 run if the team improves over the year, like the Palmer Trojans of… Read more »

From a college football betting angle, Steele ranks as one of the best when to comes to handicapping football games. The guy, or his people, do a lot of homework and know their shit

Why does everyone rank Washington so highly? I really don’t get this logic. Well I guess the good news is that if we beat Texas and Stanford we will be in the top 8 by week 4. I think it’s time to go to lunch with JJ and see who will be starting at QB week 1 & 2. My understanding is that it won’t be JT. I cannot wait for September!

I am SO with you about Washington. I have been scratching my head ever since Peterson joined them over the ranking hype. It is a hype of Notre Dame levels, and as with Notre Dame, it pushed them into a playoff game they had no business playing in. Their “success” has mostly been a function of favorable scheduling, and when they faced an imperfect USC team a couple years back, they were punched in the mouth at home. I think Washington will be good this year because they again have a favorable schedule and have a senior returning at QB,… Read more »

We are the conference of champions who beat each other up. However preseason polls before a team has selected a starting quarterback is like saying you can win with anyone.
