“I just want to go on record…(Heisman Trophy winner) Baker Mayfield was going into these NFL interviews at age 23, confident. You know, you’ve done a lot,” says The Big Lead’s Jason McIntyre.
“Sam Darnold’s a 20-yr old, okay (will be 21 in June)! That’s a big difference. I think the Browns whiffed badly here. I think the Jets got the best quarterback in the draft.”
I couldn’t agree more here. The Browns surely somehow again “whiffed badly” in the draft. They then seriously compounded the felony with their pick No. 4 pick by choosing Cotton Bowl-skipping 5’10” CB Denzel Ward over unstoppable-killer-off-the-edge Bradley Chubbs, who will now team with Von Miller to absolutely wreak havoc on whoever is playing the Denver Broncos.
Though Darnold will be given “every opportunity to win the starting job” immediately with the Jets, McIntyre advises the Jets not to start Darnold during the first half of the season.
I don’t think Darnold will be able to avoid playing early this season for the Jets. He has so much talent and confidence — as was evident to the entire USC team when he was only a true frosh and already making throws Max Browne could only dream about. Browne has still not signed a free agent contract with an NFL team.
