Get Ready for Twitchy Mason Cobb

Big things are expected of OKS ILB transfer Mason Cobb this season

Cobb will represent USC, along with Caleb Williams, at the Pac-12 Media Day this Friday. And yes, both wear #13.

Lincoln Riley said early on that Cobb “has a unique fire about him,” regarding his leadership ability. “Without a doubt, you feel it when he’s on the field.”

That guy was born to play inside linebacker,” USC ILB coach Brian Odom said of Cobb after a spring practice. “His movements are exactly what you want as an inside linebacker. He’s quick, he’s got a lot of twitch to him. He’s very physical and he’s extremely competitive.”

“I grew up nasty, always fighting,” is how the second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2022 describes himself. “That’s how I play.”

“It was really the presence I could bring to the defense,” Cobb said of the recruiting pitch USC coaches gave him when he entered the transfer portal. “They said there was a gap in the defense and someone needed to bring them together.”

Cobb says his stature as the youngest of six brothers prepared him for his current role as a starting USC ILB.  “I was seven years younger than the closest one and I was always trying to fight those older brothers. It’s always been about competition for me.”

He’s different,” Trojan DL commit Deyvid Palepale said of his Cobb observations during his campus visit.
