USC Women Win NCAA Water Polo Title

The #1 USC Women’s Water Polo team (26-1) just beat Stanford, 5-4, at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center. This is the USC Women’s 5th NCAA Water Polo national championship  —  and 4th since 2010. This was the lowest scoring championship game since 2009.

Sophomore Denise Mammolito, from Rancho Cucamonga (Ca), led the Trojans with three goals in the Trojans’ home pool. She shot in the winning strike with only 1:57 to go in the 4th quarter.

Stanford and USC have won each of the last nine NCAA national championships, and Stanford has three of the last five, including last year.

Very physical match from the outset with stanfurd trying to bully the Trojans, they were getting called for kicking and many other offensive fouls in transition. Strategy didn’t work as the Ladies of Troy held their ground and in the end outlasted them. On the final possession it was only fitting that stanfurd was called for the offensive foul and turned it over again.
